When I first developed fibro, it hit me in my elbows like I had banged the "funny bone" really hard. The intense pain shot down my arm and into my hands and stayed that way for weeks! I couldn't eat or sleep. I just cried. It did eventually go away.
Many years later, I started getting pain in my hands again. My fingers would lock and I would manually have to open them up again. It hurt. I still have one finger that I have to do that with. My other fingers will "pop" when I open my hand from being in a fist. I had such pain in my right thumb that I was having great difficulty holding a pen. (I couldn't open jars or lift plates into the cupboard, etc. either) I was practicing how to write with my left hand so I could pay my bills. I babied that hand and gradually it got better and now I have absolutely no problems with it. To me, that's fibro.
You should always have new symptoms checked out with your doctor. When I developed heart palpitations, I headed for the doctor and he did a myriad of tests and the bottom line was it was fibro causing them because my testing came back perfectly. We have a mod here that was getting bad headaches and ignored them thinking it was fibro and she ended up having a stroke! She is recouperating now but she did post to let us know not everything is caused by fibro. So ALWAYS get checked out if something is worrying you. Get the bad stuff ruled out.
