I have an inner ear disorder, and flying has always been a challenge for me. Last month I flew to Florida, and I had a much better experience using some tips I learned from doing some research. I figured there might be others here who have the same motion sickness issues while flying, so I thought I would share:
It helps to sit in the middle of the plane. Think of a see-saw. The middle part stays the most stationary, while the front and back have more motion.
When you are ascending or descending, try looking out the window. Your eyes give your brain more input about
the motion you are experiencing, and you may have less dizziness. My daughter suggested this one, and it helped me tremendously (she is so smart
).
Try chewing peppermint gum or sucking on a peppermint for the tummy upset.
Try "EarPlanes." They are these little silicone ear plugs that equalize the pressure in your ears. They worked really well for me and minimized ear pain.
If you get really dizzy/nauseous, try staring at a fixed spot like the back of a seat.
If all else fails, try to go to sleep!
I hope everyone who is traveling by plane has a comfy, motion sickness free trip!!
