One of my greatest joys was getting a relaxing shampoo at the beauty shop. I've loved that since I was a little girl. My DM's cousin was a beautician, so she always did my hair when I was a child. The massage was heavenly. THEN she retired. Let the pain begin!! I grew my hair long, no bangs, washed my own hair in the shower.
Yrs. later I colored my hair to cover some gray. My other cousin did my hair first time, later my mother did it for me, as I couldn't raise my arms up for any length of time. When I got married, I asked my DH to do my hair for me. My Sweetheart did that for me for many yrs till I decided to let it go natural. He would also shampoo the dye out of my hair, so gentle.
I eventually cut my hair short yrs ago and needed to keep it short. After 1 scary attempt by my sister to cut my hair, I had to find a beautician I could count on. I found one who was an angel. I explained how my back was horrible and the sink hurt my neck, and ...! She put cushions under me, behind my back and on the ledge of the sink, then she got an ottoman from the back room to put my legs up - that took the pressure off my back as I reclined. The girl who did the shampoos wasn't allowed to touch my hair, my lady did it herself. She would take extra time to do it just to give me that relaxation lift. When she retired I was devastated.
Now I don't color my hair and I don't get the shampoo in the shop. They just wet it and cut. I go home, give myself a shampoo and they blow dry it. I wish it were a fun day out to spoil myself, but it is less painful this way.
God bless. Alice.
