Increase symptoms with Statin Drugs?

I was put on a statin drug for high cholesterol.

I had a mega increase in fibro symptoms.

I went off and the symptoms got better.

The doctor is trying me on a different drug,

but I am totally miserable.

Has anyone has any luck taking a cholesterol drug?

If so what do you take?

I'm on a statin drug (Zocor).  Statin drugs deplete your body of CoQ10.  That will cause pain.  I had the same problem as you are having so I am now taking 100 mg of CoQ10 in the morning and 100 mg of CoQ10 in the evening and that has helped.  I spoke with my doctor about it and what he had me do was stop the statin for one month, take the above amount of CoQ10 to help build it up in my system, and then start up the statin med again but continue with the CoQ10.  So  you might want to talk to your doctor about it.  CoQ10 is found in nearly all the cells in the body, I believe.  Here is a link about it.

I take Lipitor, and have for several years with no increase in flares. That being said, some people have trouble taking stain drugs and I think you should work with your doctor to find the best solution for you. Everyone is different. Best Wishes, V

The idea of statins causing or increasing muscle pain is true. I wonder if increasing my statin from once a week to twice, then to 3 times could have caused my increasing shoulder pain??? I did have a problem with muscle pain in my thighs a couple of years ago when my dosage was increased, had to stop altogether for a year and a half. Then I started up again.

I will have to go back into my notebooks and see if there is any connection between increased shoulder pain and statin increase. Well, that's why I keep food and med logs!

Statins can cause things you'd never expect, like tinnitus.

I took Colestid for a couple of years since statins of al types started bothering me after a dose increase. It grabs fats and bile acids in the gut, doesn't get into your bloodstream. It causes a lot of constipation, which is why it's also used for bowel problems, so I had to take Miralax daily. It does work, but after 2 years I just couldn't stand the chronic constipation - which not everyone gets, but I do since I'm also on tramadol and some other stuff.

The very best way of decreasing cholesterol is eliminating white carbs from the diet. The liver takes sugars and starches and makes them into cholesterol. It doesn't matter if you eat fat! Cholesterol is about carbs!! My husband is a chemist, knows this stuff. I've gotten of bread and had good weight loss as well as better cholesterol than even when taking high doses of drugs.
