I have been diagnosed with asthma. Luckily one time when the shortness of breath started up, I was at an allergist's office. She had me breath into one of her machines again, and it read that my lung capacity was less than it had been a few moments before. She told me to use a peak-flo monitor throughout the day to find out just how often the episodes occured, and how severe they were.
I do not know your situation, but using a peak-flo monitor every day will help you to see if your lung capacity actually changes during episodes. I spent about $12.00 (at cost) for mine. You can find them in medical supply stores. My doc wrote a script in case insurance would cover it, but you do not need a script to buy one. They are really easy to use, and small enough to bring with you anywhere.
Any breathing problem gets in the way of life! We put up Christmas lights outside yesterday, an my lungs are so sore now. If I dont take it easy (during my holiday season!), I will be very sick in a couple of days, needing anitbiotics and stuck in bed.
Is this condition realted to fibro? I do not know. Asthma developed after the fibro started up in me. A sibling has asthma, but I'm the only family member with fibro. My pulmonogist does not see a relationship between the two conditions as of yet.
Sometimes the muscle pain in my chest is fibro. I can get fibro anywhere, and pretty much know the difference between muscle pain realted to it, and some other different and exciting problem. The cardiologst tells me my heart is fine. Besides, the pain is not by the heart, it is closer to my side.
There is an allergy/asthma forum on this site. I go in there sometimes myself. The people in there may have some insite to offer you.
Hope you feel better. Take care.
