Debbie, I used to teach fourth grade and loved it. I was young, full of energy and healthy. Then my illnesses started...around age 30.
I left teaching to raise my children but money was tight so I thought I'd try substituting. I subbed for several classes and made it through but then I met my Waterloo. I was given an unbelievably wild classroom of children and they ended up having to call another substitute for me! My back went out on me, due to the stress, and I could barely walk to the car to get home. I hung up my teaching certificate and officially became a stay at home Mom.
So, because of this story, I didn't respond to this thread yesterday. I'm really proud of you that you got through the day. Substituting is a "different animal" than having your own classroom and your classroom rules. It definitely is more difficult since you don't get the opportunity to really know the kids and they don't get to know you either.
