Just found out today that I have Fibromyalgia.  It's been a long road trying to find out what was wrong.  My finger joints are swollen and do hurt. Is this part of Fibromyalgia?

Hi, Marilyn, welcome. I'm not one who has joint swelling in the hands, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly who has. You've come to a good place for support, we've all pretty much been down that same looong road!

I get a lot of pain in my hands and knuckles at times. Not too much swelling, but as Debbie mentioned, there are others in here who have that symptom.

I've been recently diagnosed with fibro too. It took many years of pain and fatigue, but at least now I know why. Every day that I get out of the house is one more day that fibro didn't get the best of me.

There is a lot of support in here. All of us help each other out. Welcome :-)

Mine often have the feeling that they are swollen but aren't actually swollen..but painful yes!! Id like to welcome you to the forum..this is a great place to find out more about your new diagnosis. I'm sorry that its fibro but hopefully now knowing what it is will ease your mind. I encourage uou to read the fibro 101 thread at the top of the forum. It has helped me tremendously..it answers lots of questions and gives great advice! *soft hugs*

I've had the knuckle swelling (just a couple fingers at a time) and toes sometimes.

Has your dr checked for RA or Lupus? Just wondering. My rheumy kept asking about joint swelling (my mom has RA) and at the time I had none. Now I wonder if I might have more going on. My ANA tests were mildly positive.

I hope you feel better soon.

My rheumatologist say my joint pain and swelling is from arthritis, not my Fibro.

You might want to make an appointment with your doctor and let him see your hands.

Thank you for all your help.  I have been  tested for everything and it is negative on all the other arthrisis.   I am still not convinced yet.  I will see my Dc. again in Feb.

Fibro effects everyone different. I do not have swelling but lots of pain in fingers and hands period. It is a battle trust me and you will have to find what works best for you. The first thing is to find meds that help, then add some exercise (water aerobics worked best for me). I did not want to accept that I had this, but after 13 yrs of suffering with it, taking so many leave of absences from work, then being put on disability, I had to come to terms with this. It is what it is and I have to try and make the best of things.

Hi Marilyn and welcome to our fibro family, You asked what life is going to be like with fibro, and I want to let you know that it is different for each of us. One of the best resources to check out for fibro is fibro 101 that Sherrine, one of our moderators, compiled for us. It is the first message in the fibro forum. It has a lot of helpful links that tell about fibro.

I find that I can deal with my fibro alot better if I take it one day at a time. I know there are going to be some really bad days but there are also good days.
It is really hard to deal with sometimes because you can get used to it hurting in one place and then the pain will move to somewhere else.

I have had fibro since I was a teenager but it wasn't diagnosed until I was in my 40's. It is not a life threatening disease even though there are days where you might think it is. lol

Make sure that it doesn't take over your life. Remember you have fibro it does not have you. Keep moving and doing gentle exercises. No matter how bad you feel moving will help keep you going. Walking, stretching and water exercises are the best. Start out slow and work your way up with them. Try not to overdo because that can make the pain even worse.

Shirley is right,

We have fibro, it does not have us. You will have pain, but it will subside. It may never go completely away, but you learn to kind of let it fade into the background. You will have fatigue. It can be terrible. I was in bed for two years due to pain and fatigue. Mostly the fatigue bothers me, I can live with the pain. But a lot of it is the way that you look at it and your attitude. You can choose to let it run your life or you can learn to live with it and not let it bother you. It doesn't go away, but it can be controlled and kept at bay. Many of us have still accomplished a lot even with the fibromyalgia. And many of us have had a fullfilling life. If you dwell on it, it will get to you. Coming here helps a lot of us. We are able to share things and it is a wonderful support system. So keep posting. Do read fibro101. It will answer a lot of questions and let you know that you are not alone.
