I am soooo tired today its not even funny. I've been dragging this week. It's still bad sleeping patters with me. Usually I won't sleep until around 12-1 AM then get up at 6:30 AM...drag myself thru work and by 5 I'm spent. I drive home (sometimes scary because I'm so tired I'm afraid I'll fall asleep, so I will call hubby or a family member to stay awake) then when I get home, I will throw something in the over for din-din and then lay down. Sometimes I'll nap sometimes I don't but it's just getting worse. I do take ativan before bed and nuvigil in the morning...

 

Okay so I'm really tired and I've noticed it plays a factor in my mood. I feel really depressed right now because I'm so tired. I take 150 mg of nuvigil, there is a higher dosage, but I think it can be associated with more headaches when you take the higher dosage. But being this tires just makes me feel sooo blue.

 

Doe anyone else fee depression when they are really sleepy? (Or is it just another oddity that I have)??? LOL

I dont battle depression issues but my daughter does. She doesn't get depressed because she is so tired, she gets tired because she is depressed. It is really hard to tell the difference and I am usually the one that has to point it out to her. she then goes to the doc and gets her meds adjusted. Are you taking anything for depression? (I don't recognize the meds you are on.) Maybe you need to have them adjusted or as in her case another added to it to balance. she suffers from seasonal disorder too and needs additional meds in the winter months. Could this be a possibility?

You may need to try something other than Nuvigil, like provigil or adderall. There is also ritalin. These are all stimulants and an increase or a change might help you. I take the adderall and it keeps me from sleeping all day. In all, I think the fatigue bothers me more than the pain of fibromyalgia. It is like a catch 22. Especially when the depression starts. Feel free to post on the depression forum if you need to. There are a lot of wonderful understanding members there.

The depression could be coming from the fibro or just the fatigue. Are you taking anything for the depression in itself? You might want to talk to the doctor about that. There is a medication called welbutrin that gives you a little energy and it is an antidepressant. I wish you the best.

Hi Hopegirl, I think Denita and Karen are right, you might want to check into getting on an anti-depressant. I know it has helped me immensely over the last 6 years or so. I do still get tired but I no longer have those feelings of wanting to die.
I hope you get the help you need soon.

Thanks for the replys. I actually am on prestiq for depression and it's suppose to help with a little energy too.

Right now I take in the am:

Oxy IR 15

Nuvigil 125

Namemda 5 mg

Fantanyl Patch 75

I wonder if the prestiq should be changed....I think it may be time to change it. I just really hate changing it because is seems to have a pretty low _ex drive effect on me. Some antidepressants can really do a job on me or should I say my husband. LOL

Hi Hopegirl, I looked up the meds you listed and at least 3 of them can cause  ( can cause doesn't mean WILL cause)   fatigue and or depression or both fatigue & depression.  A few of them also throw anxiety in the list of possible side effects.

I don't take any of them so I can't answer from personal exerience.  I hope you get it figured out.

sometimes I feel like I get depressed because I'm sooo tired, too. I've been told I will probably have to take anti-depressants for the rest of my life and that depresses me too. lol. I didn't want to believe it so I quit them, I had some other reasons also, but a year later I ended up back on the darn things. My husband doesn't want me to take adderall, had a prescription for it once but he through a big fit so I threw the adderall out.

GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS....LIGHT THERAPY!!! I am here to tell you it works! I bought one at Costco for $50 about three or four months ago and the sucker works! Somehow the light helps to raise serotonin levels which is the brain chemical responsible for depressioin and fatigue. I have NEVER been diagnosed with seasonal depressioin, but I do have depression and I am OFF all depression meds and the light, along with psychotherapy, is working!!! Please research it, talk to your doctors. I really do not think you have anything to lose...if it doesn't work, take it back!

Is it ok for me to post what brand I bought? If so, I will do so...

JP, My husband is the same.  He takes my Soma any chance he gets, he doesn't literally take them but he either throws them out or hides them in case I might need one.  He does this quite often.

Hopegirl, maybe instead of looking into a different/additional stimulant you could ask your doctor about something that would help you sleep better? (The ativan doesn't seem to be helping you very much). It kind of makes sense to attack a fatigue problem by attacking your sleep problem first. That's what I did and it worked well for me. It isn't perfect by any means but very much improved. Lee

Hopegirl,

I take ambien for sleep and it gives me a restful sleep. I don't know what will work for you, but ambien might be something to think about. Or melatonin if you don't want to take a prescription med.

I take pristiq too. 100mg. I really like it. I also take a mood stabilizer called abilify along with it. The combination is pretty good. The abilify also stops me from thinking too much which interfers with my sleep. If I can't shut off my mind, I can't get to sleep.

I hope that you find what works for you. It can be trial and error as far as antidepressants go. It took me a long time (years) to find what worked for me. I do consider myself lucky that I did when I did.

Keep us posted on how the doctor visit goes. I take adderall and it works well. I have had to have my dose increased due to building a tolerance and also the doctor started me off on a low dose. But if it wasn't for that I would be in bed like I use to be. Fatigue bothers me more than the pain does. I can handle the pain and keep going, but not the fatigue.

A lot of antidepressants have sexual side effects. I think you said that the pristiq did that to you. I had trouble with that with paxil years ago. It is hard to find what is right for you and doesn't have side effects. But I wish you the best of luck, it can be done.
