FM vs. Rheumatoid Arthritis

I just came from my new doctor and it has been confirmed that have FM but also the beginning stages of Rheumatoid Arthritis.  Does anyone know any more details on lab reading: RA Latex Turbid High 14.6.   Although all the rest of the blood work was normal, this one came back too high.  My new physician confirmed the beginning stages of RA. I am glad I changed RA doctors.  This one listens and digs deep to find out the problem.  So if any of you have any concerns and feel that you have more than FM please keep digging and if you need to change doctors do so.  I am glad I did. I always felt that my body was telling something more than just FM was going on w/ me.  I am too uncomfortable and the slightest things make me sick.  I know FM is very similar but my body was telling something else too.  Thank you for your support and listening to me.  God Bless

Well, I'm sorry you have RA, but glad you found this out. Now you can get treatment for it and hopefully feel better. What exactly was it that made you think something else was going on?

I'm glad you found out, too.  I don't know much about RA but with most illnesses, if you discover them early, you have a better chance at keeping things at bay.  I hope that goes for RA too.  There are very few of us that have only fibro.  Most of us have several other "goodies" going on, too.  Your advice is good.  If you are still wondering.  keep searching

Debbie, what made me think I had something else was my body just didn't feel right. I began to hurt so much that I couldn't even pick up my feet to walk right. My hands are very sensitive. opening jars is painful. Putting my hands on the steering wheel aches and any little bit of work around the house would just become difficult and painful. I have been living w/ fm since 2000 and it was always very painful but I managed. lately I just can bare the pain and I felt like my body was telling me something. I also have elevated platelets which i am not too sure what that means. Anyone knows anything about elevated platelets. He also said I have autoimmune diseases so I am not sure what that all means.
Hopefully this helps some w/ whatever symptoms you are dealing with. Keep searching and don't give up even the docs look at you like one has a 9 heads. My previous RA doc was not as caring as this one. I am glad I made the changes.

I always say...we know our bodies better than anyone. If new symptoms start, it is always a good idea to let your doc know. There are times when something can't be blamed on fibro.

RA Latex is basically the same as Rheumatoid factor...that can be forever changing and at times not even in your blood. Clinical symptoms are very important in determining the connective tissue diseases. Bloodwork changes, and the type of med you are placed on has influence on blood counts.

I know that normal platelet count is 140-440 K/ul. My platelets are usually on the low end which isn't the best and the real high end isn't good either...but they will keep a close eye on it.

Hoping you will find a med that helps, there are plenty out there
from anti- inflammatories to immunosupressants.

wow, that's interesting. I'm sorry you have RA as well. My hands hurt a lot too. Is that common with Fibro as well? I don't have inflammation though. did you notice inflammation right away?

Bridget10 I have always had sensitive hands and feet and I always blamed FM for this but as it progressed to worse I knew there was something more than just FM. I drag my feet a lot too and have more limited in what I can do more than the usual. We will see what happens next. Thank you for your support.
