Ok, so I've tried Lyrica and that didn't help. Now I'm on Savella. Has anyone had serious side effects to it? I think I am. I get these hot flashes and feel like I'm going to majorly get sick and then it stays with me all day. I actually got sick today. So now what? I just filled my prescription before I was told yesterday that it's probably the Savella making me feel this way. I was happy when I got on it because I could tell it made a difference and now I'm going to have to get off of it because it makes me extremely sick. My doctor basically told me in so many words that I'm a doctor's challenge. She was joking around. I told her that "I told you I'm majorly sensitive to medications"! She was like yea I see that. So, now what do I do. Ultram helps me tremendously but I have side effects from that. I can live with those side effects but can't work on them. I get groggy, spacey and tried on it. So, the Savella helped with everyday pain and I take Ultram when I have extremely bad days. NOW, I can't take Savella. Is there anything else they could try? I'm at my wits end right now!

Savella was the worst for me. I don't really have any suggestions but you are not the only one who is a challenge, tons of people can't take the fibro meds and I am one of them.

Some people take cymbalta for fibromyalgia. But you are on lyrica and ultram, I wonder why she added the savella??? Maybe there is something it covers that the other ones don't. I think cymbalta might help, but it is a really hard medication to go off of if you decide to. And if you are sensitive to medications, I don't know if it would be a good med. I would talk to the doctor and see what would be the best medication to try next. What is it that you are having problems with that your current meds aren't helping??? Is is pain or fatigue?

I'm sorry that The Savella didn't work for you...I've been on it for nearly two years with out any problems...I couldn't tolerate Cymbalta.

Many people are sensitive to these new meds. After I was unable to handle the Cymbalta my rheumy decided to put me on Savella...both meds are SNRI's. Usually a patient is given a 2week titratration pack starting off on 12.5 mg of Savella increasing up to a dose of 50mg, 2x daily at the end of the 2 week period...a normal daily dose.

The fact I had trouble with the Cymbalta, my rheumy gave me 2- 2wk triation packs so that I had a full month to get up to a full dose... that probably saved me from experiancing any bad effects.
Savella has helped but I'm not pain free!

Maybe asking that any med he puts you on be introduced at a much slower pace, it might make a differance. Hope you find relief soon!

I could not take Savella or Cymbalta. They both made my bp soar. My doctor gave me Lexapro. The plain SSRIs don't raise my bp. Sorry the Savella didn't work for you. Hope they will find something that helps soon.

Getting by - The Lyrica didn't help so she switched me to Savella. Dr game me samples to take for 2 weeks. When I stopped the Savella for 2 weeks because I didn't have money to get script I immediately noticed the difference with the pain. When I finally got the prescription I was happy. I didn't notice any problems until now.

Crazy - The unfortunate thing is that they were introduced slowly. And, I'm just now getting side effects from it. I've been on Savella for 2 months. It seems like things work for about 2months then it's a NO go.

Vannie - The Lexapro didn't work for me. I'm not even getting sleep now. Dr had me on Klonopin and that worked for sleep for about a month or two then stopped. I can't take all this. And, I'm suppose to function like this. Hopefully this will help my SSD case as I can't take medications.

The only thing that really helps is the Ultram but that gives me side effects but I can live with those side effects, I just can't work with them. It's a never ending story for me! Thanks for responding. Everyone is so helpful here. I knew there was one more with the Cymbalta but I couldn't remember the name. I probably won't go on it if given the chose. Dr said Zoloft might help so I just may try that with the Ultram and call it a day.

Savella was the worst for me. I had hot flashes all day long. I had stomach ache and nausea and I felt sick all the time. The worst for me was the hot flashes. I felt like my body was on fire all the time. I had to stop it. It did help my pain, but the side effects were too much. Why didn't Lyrica work for you? What side effects did you have? I have not tried lyrica as of yet. Good Luck.

Addendum, my doctors always tell me I am too sensitive to meds as well. I basically cannot tolerate a lot of meds so I am in a hopeless case and docs do get impatient sometimes because they do not want to believe that a person can be so sensitive to meds. This really bugs me when they do this because as the patient I feel hopeless and guilty that I cannot tolerate meds.

Simplistic - The Lyrica just didn't help. It really never took the pain away. I got on Savella and didn't have problems at first and was very pleased until a month later when I got side effects. Thank god I didn't take the other 25 that I was prescribed. I would be in the hospital. Thanks for letting me know that you got hot flashes too. The hot flash makes me get sick. I'm also checking to see if I'm premenopausal as well. God I hope not! I hear on the guilty part with meds. I told my doctor out right before we started with meds that I'm sensitive to them. I think she's starting to believe me! :) I guess all you can do is laugh at all this!

How do you know the medication is giving you the side effects and the problem isn't the Fibro? I always get nausiated and burning pain when I have a flare up. Nothing really helps me during a flare up. I take Ibuprofen 800 mg and Tramadol 50 mg when I can't handle the pain anymore. I've tried so many pain medications, but I always get so sick right after taking them. I am curious because family and friends wonder if I am having a reation to my meds. But wouldn't I have the nausia all the time?

2sons - I haven't felt like this until AFTER I started taking the Savella on a regular basis. I thought it might be premenopausal and I still may have that but I do believe it's the medicine too. I get sick like clock work a half hour after taking the meds. I get a hot flash then immediately get sick. The feeling goes away but I stay nauseated the whole day. So my mornings are horrible then I can function more in late afternoon. I'm extremely sensitive to meds and always have been. I just never realized how bad. You very well could be having a reaction to the meds. I would talk with your dr. Lyrica didn't bother me this way but it didn't help with pain. The Savella helps with pain but I'm nauseated every day so it's not worth it. I'll probably finish this bottle and get off of it. I just filled it before dr verified about the medicine so I just feel I don't want to waste money. The Savella helps but I just won't be renewing it. Good luck!

I had the same type of problem with those types of medications too. They would work good for me until about a month or two down the road and then the side effects would kick in. I finally started taking effexor and that had the least amount of side effects. Sometimes they give wellbutrin for fibromyalgia too. Most people get the side effects in the first two weeks. But not me.

I sure do hope that you find what is right for you.

Getting By - Thanks. I thought I was NUTS thinking it could be the Savella because of being on it and finally getting serious side effects a couple months later. I guess it just proves that it takes these meds months to REALLY get into our systems. I'll have to ask about the effexor. They had me on Wellbutrin but didn't notice any pain relief. I guess I'll try getting off the "Fibro Meds" and try all the antidepressants. But even with them, after 2 months they don't work. I'm just a nightmare. I take non drowsy Benadryl and get drowsy so go figure...
