Savella

My doctor just gave me a trial packet of savella. I have read that there are many ill feeling side effects. I am deciding whether these things would be easier to endure than the pain. My concern is this: if it alters my emotional perception of life, will that perception remain altered even if I go off savella? I was told of one instance where the person taking an antidepressant felt no emotion when their mother died. I would presume that was at a time of full dosages, but I am not certain. Has anyone felt numb to emotion while on savella? And if so, did that numbness leave when savella was discontinuing?

Hi Recycler and welcome to our fibro family, I have never been on savella but I am on an anti-deprssant and I can honestly say that it does not numb the loss of someone you love. I lost a friend 3 weeks ago and I am still feeling the pain of her loss.

Another person to talk to about the side effects would be a pharmacist, alot of times they know more about the side effects than the doctors.

We are one big family here and we all care about each other so please feel free to ask questions, vent when you need too or offer support to others.

I was on Savella but I never was numb. HOWEVER, I stopped Savella as I had serious side effects from it. I would get hot flashes and get nauseauted. I stopped as soon as I started vomiting from it. But like someone said earlier, everyone works differently. Unfortunately, I'm extremely sensitive to meds so basically all that is working right now is Ultram and I have side effects from that. Good luck with your decision.

Thank you for all of the input. I really appreciate it. I can't begin to tell you how comforting it is to be in communication with people who truly understand the unseen pain. I have felt very alone with this until now.

For some reason, I don't tolerate anything that messes with those brain chemicals. Tried them all over the years.

As for your question about aromatherapy, I've never even thought about it but it's a good idea if you can stand smells. I have an aura of 'things to come' when I start noticing smells so aromatherapy may not be for me but I could see where it might be very soothing for some. Good luck!

Hello everyone! I just started on Savella tonight. I was a little scared to try it at first. I don't do brain meds well either! But I found out a lot of information on the web...so here goes! I've just been diagnoised with fibromyalgia today, along with everything else ailing, I'm not surprised. I'm praying for some relief from this pain! You all know how I feel. I'll keep you posted on my success!! I see where some of you have posted your health problems and meds you are on at the bottom of your post...I'll try to figure out how to do that! We have a lot in common. Glad I've found yall!

I'm new to this chat - I was dx'd with FMS 1.5 yrs ago and it's been a battle learning to live with it. Savella changed the ballgame for me and controlled the pain. My pain specialist told me savella used to be given as an anti-depressant but it didn't work well for people for that - but they have come to see it helps FMS patients. This was a game changer for me. I still take Wellbutrin as my anti-depressant but have been on that for yrs and think it's not working all that well. Tried Cymbalta at one point in my life and it made me devastatingly depressed. They say it works well for FMS but I'm scared big time to try it again. They also have me on Flexeril for spasms but I want to try to get off it cause I've had weight gain that I don't understand. Sure my activity is down but I was never a huge exercise person.
Anyone has issues with Flexeril and weight gain? And cold turkey or wean?

I tried Savella and it did wonders for my pain, but I had to stop taking it because of high blood pressure. I tried Cymbalta and I felt awful. Finally, my rheumy put me on Lexapro. That has helped a lot with the burning pain I have from Fibro. The Savella actually worked better, I think, but at least the Lexapro doesn't raise my bp. Everyone reacts so differently to meds. I hope you do well.

I wasn't able to tolerate Savella. I was crying all the time. It made my depression go through the roof, but we're all different. Best of luck with your treatment. I hope it works out great for you.

Started Stella 7 days ago approx.So far no side effects.The pack slowly increases the dose and along as you have frequent f/u with. Your Dr ,you should be ok.So far positive results.I notice more energyalthough I'm still tired ,although prior,I thought I would have to apply for disability.I also noticed improvement in pain,no 100%,but enough to get through my working week 40hrs.I'm only on 50mg,start 100mg tommorrow,hope to seemore improvement.I also take fentNyl patch 25mcg ,every three days to help relieve the painalso,just started this paincontrol and really has made a difference.

I could not work without it.Seville has not made me foggy,in fact I'm thinking clearly.Good luck and let me know how you are doing.
