I'm sort of new to all of this...well, diagnosis wise.  I have been dealing with this for a long time, just making those doctor rounds where they keep handing me over to someone else. rolleyes

So, I have a question about fog.  Does fog come and go, in short spurts sometimes?  I few weeks ago, I was sitting on the couch watching tv and it hit me, I HAD MISSED MY RHEUMY APPT.  I was so upset, mad for missing it, upset that I had missed it and not called them...then I thought, now why didn't Stacey ask me how the appt went last night.  That's when I realized it wasn't Monday.  As I am sitting there, it hits me it's Wednesday night.  At that point, I am trying to remember what the date was I had written on receipts at work all day, still trying to figure out which day it was.  I got up, looked at the calendar and realized, my appt was 5 days away.  I was so frustrated at that point, I sat down and cried.  Is this something any of you have dealt with?  That's just one example, others have happened the same way.  It's very upsetting at the time, seems silly later.

Deb, that has happened to me.  Fibro fog is unsettling at first but you will learn to laugh at it....and also write everything down!  turn    Just this week I went to the bank to get coins and bills for a garage sale I'm having on Friday.  I wrote down how many rolls of each coin and then the money I owed for each roll.  I wrote a check for all that I needed, handed the teller the check and the note with the information on it.  Half of it was wrong.  I figured the amounts wrong and actually didn't need to make my check for as much as I did.  I felt soooo stupid but I laughed and told him that all this "high finance" business is confusing to me.  I usually don't have a problem at all in that area.

 

Then, a couple of hours later, I called my doctor's head nurse to make a special appointment.  I got the voicemail and they asked for my name and phone number.  I gave them my name and then got nearly through my phone number when I realized I was giving them my phone number that I had in another state 13 years ago!  DUH!  I had to laugh again.  Another time I couldn't remember my phone number at all and had to pull out my checkbook and read it off my checks!  Crying just stresses you and you can't do anything about this so laughing is far better for you.

 

I will have days with no problems and then I'll have days like the one I just described.  I don't have a clue why it comes and goes like that but I can't worry about it, either, so I just laugh it off.

Thank you.  I think half the battle is finding out you are not alone.  When I mention this to someone without fibro, they tell me it's just a part of getting old and it happens to them too.   I truly do not think they have any concept of what I was talking about.  I totally understand what you are talking about with the bank and such...I totally relate.

I have 3 numbers that are so close 0766, 0628, 0876. I get them confused all the time and I need to know them regularly. It is pretty bad when trying to give my phone number or fax line

You do have lots of company, Deb~ I had a similar event just this last week but won't go into the details since it's a long story. But similar to your 'forgetting your rheumy appointment', it's very frustrating to absolutely KNOW something then find out you are totally wrong and it's often something, like your own phone number...lol, that there's no reason not to know. I tell my kids/grandkids that the reason I carry a drivers license is so I can remember my own name and address if I get lost.

I really can be frightening and upsetting when the 'fog' gets thick. Today I tried to put the milk in the pantry...probably not a wise choice. I lose stuff all the time but I've given up looking for things for very long. They'll turn up eventually. If you lose your one of your slippers and it's no where to be found, just buy a new pair and the old one will magically show up! Now you have your old comfy slippers and a nice new pair also. This can work to your advantage if you play your cards right.

We're a wonderful bunch of 'Foggies' and we'll make it because we stick together~

Oh yeah, the losing things, my middle name!  If my keys are not in the spot they belong, I will walk out of the house without them..same thing in the car.  If something is in my hand, I will get out of the car without the keys, it locks itself!  I finally had to carry a 2nd set with me.

They have reminder options on cell phones, but for some reason, using the option is too frustrating to me...that's the only word I can come up with right now.  Oh, and yes, words can be an issue.  I think I read someone mention that problem too.  I will type an email to someone and now try to always proofread it.  Often times, I will type a word, even spelling it correctly, yet it's not the word I was thinking and absolutely does not make any sense.  Then, there are words I will momentarily have no idea how to spell.  This is very frustrating at work.

It is good to know we have each other to share with, even though I wish this would go away for all of us.  Do you ever wonder what it would be like to feel great for a day???

Ohhh, That is me! Some days are better than others. I confuse days, appointments and things in my everyday routines. i also have difficulty retrieving words. I thought for a time I was experiencing early onset of Alztimers (sp) I make lists...lots and lots of lists and a monthly planner. So, you are not alone. And you are not losing your mind.

Your not alone as you see, I have issues, I wrote down the time for my doctors appointment but didn't write the date......duh.

Yesterday was making chicken and noodles, set the table and my youngest girl started to make a plate and goes, Mom where is the noodles.......um can you say duh... rolleyes

All you can do is laugh at yourself.

Yeah, I do understand the "laugh at yourself" part.  I have had many incidents over the years just like many you are discussing.  I guess the one a few weeks ago was more than I could handle on that particular day.  And, maybe it opened my eyes to what I am reading here.

I had been looking forward to that appt and had previously been told it would take a long time to get an appt with that rheumy..I was on the phone making an appt when they had a cancellation, which was given to me in one week.  So when I thought I missed it, I was so angry with myself.

You are all right, laugh it off and repeat it to others like yourself so they can laugh too.  Laugher is the best medicine! smilewinkgrin

I'm forever switching my words around. If I mean to say ear, I say eye...or mixing words up in a sentence. My kids will look at me funny so I ask them to repeat what I said because to me, the words were right in my head but they come out wrong. I, too, write everything down. I have a central calendar in my kitchen that as soon as I get home with a new appointment, I write it down. If I am going out with friends, I write it down. Sometimes even driving, I will forget where I am going at times or I will be driving down a road that I have been down a hundred times but it looks wrong.

But, at least for me, it doesn't happen every day. I can go months being sharp as a tack only to have the next day being a complete mix up.

i lost my cell, while in bed, still cant find it, and i constantly "put things away" only to never find them again, then i yell at my husband/kids because they shud ve put it away to begin with..i hate admitting, oh yeah i put that away, but where? its so frustrating! im losing my mind sometimes

Oh yes.
I use a wall calendar. My cell phone with reminders. But mostly my husband and children.
They use to get frustrated and mad but they're use to it now.

omg and again, i am not alone. the things i have done have brought tears of laughter to a glass eye lol
having made myself coffee and been supping it for a while i suddenlyi thought it just didnt taste proper, well, maybe if i had put the mik and coffee along with the WATER it would have been fine, guess it is cheaper tho to just drink hot water, doh
phoning my daughter and oops i have phoned my mother instead, talk about tongue tied.
lately as we where heading out the door, i shouted to my son that i was just putting some food into his rabbits, rabbits oh oh , it is actually two rats he has lol
and how often do i settle down to watch a good dvd, oh if only i had seen to the end without falling asleep.
dont think anyone understands what it is all like unless they got fibro.

I can totally relate to all the stories about fibrofog. Someone once asked if I wrote things on the calendar and I replied that I couldn't remember to do that!

One strange thing I've noticed is about seeing things close by. For instance if I'm looking for a TV remote or other objects I can look all over the counter or table and not see it and it is practically in front of me. I "overlook" things a lot. Anyone else have this?

Issues all the time! Sometimes that's worse then the pain! My biggest problem is leaving my purse in the car when I go to stores and forgetting where I'm driving too! I get down to the end of my road and completely forget where I'm driving too! I sit there thinking "which way do I go George, which way do I go"!

You do have to laugh sometimes! Sometimes it'll make u angry but I'm learning to try and laugh at it all! I go to say something to hubby and I'm like hmmmm, have no idea what I was going to say! That's bad because it's usually something important.

The only bad thing about writing things down is I forget where I put what I wrote down!

lol...happens to me ALL the time ;) i used to cry from fustration but now i have learn just to laugh at it. i have a planner were i write EVERYTHING especially doctors appointments for the family, addresses and phone numbers. don't worry you are not alone.

Hi,

I've found that CoQ10 helps with the Fibrofog. Sometimes I get a little headache after I take it, if the dose is large, but it goes away in a few minutes. I also get a headache when my body runs out of it - like in the late afternoon after taking my dose the night before.  It probably would be better to take a smaler dose twice a day, but I can't seem to remember to take a morning dose. Costco has a reasonable priced store brand of it. I've also learned that taking "power naps" helps with the fog.  I've learned to relax to the point that I'm really relaxed and almost asleep or I've just start dreaming and then I wake up and my mind is clear. Naps usually last 15-20 minutes.  Setting a timer to wake up in 20 minutes works too.

The Fog is about to cost me my job. Between the time at work I have been missing, co-workers resentment of me because they think I should be there even if I am sick, not beeing able to fufill my job duties because I feel too stupid to get through the complicated text and complicated software programs we use, missing deadlines and clients complaining that I am not comunicating... And then top it off with the stress at home because I am not doing all I usually do and myteenager (with ADHD & Tourette's) and his stepfather are constantly fighting... ARGH! I can only hug my dog for so long... & the cymbalta I started last night made me sick so I missed another day of I may need to get the disability much sooner than I anticipated (I hoped to never need it) I am not sure I will even be eligible for disability, considering the fact that in 2001, 2002, 2003 i had knee surgery 3 times, worked for 6 months and returned to school, did an internship then was hired at this job in 2007 where I have been for 3.25 years. I don't know how to find out if I have enough points to get disability if I need it. Thank goodness I have the short term disabilty through Aflac but what can I do after that? I bought my first house in 2009, my first car in 2010... so frustrating!

Hello. I'm in the same boat. I got injured on the job for the 2nd time with Cubital Tunnel. My FMLA ran out and they fired me. Then got on unemployment after winning a workers comp claim which was gone quickly due to being behind on bills and what not since workers comp denied at first and then we came to a settlement at hearing. During which 9/09 until now I was diagnosed with Diabetes, Depression, Anxiety, Fibro and now Premenopausal all at the age now of 38. I have bilateral Cubital Tunnel with residual effects and was wondering how I was going cope with doing anything repetitive. Then found out all that wonderful news with Illnesses and Diseases. Was struggling for years with the Fibro but never knew it. Everything makes sense now. I chalked it up to being overweight and never had anything checked out. I've lost 44lbs so now the weight is off so obviously it wasn't the weight. Back to my point, I struggled for a year applying for jobs and trying to decide whether to apply for disability. After realizing how my life is and how it's just getting worse I came to the conclusion of applying. I am a total liability right now. I have 2 gaps in job history withing 10 years with being off for a year the first time and now 1 1/2 years at this point. I still go back and forth saying am I doing the right thing. My heart says no but head says yes. In a few weeks we will be down to one income and will be in a financial disaster. I applied in January so hope to hear something soon one way or another. The bottom line is you have to do what's best for you and out way the good with the bad.

Ohhhh I forget where I put things ALL the time! My husband laughs at me unless it's something of his then he gets frustrated. But we take it in stride and laugh about it later. One time I could've sworn that I gave my husband the video camera and I even told him so as he is ripping the house apart trying to find it. He's going around saying "Now where did I put it then (talking about himself)"???? He hunted high and low for 3 days and couldn't find it. So out of a whim, he looks in a closet that is never used in our game room. Lo and behold, there it was.......yep, it came back to me. I was one to put it there so it wouldn't get "lost"!
