Well, I applied for disability and of course got my denial letter! So bummed. I so expected it but...Still hurts to see that. I was told it would take about 9 months to get a hearing which normally takes 16 months so I guess I'm happy about that but...Still hard! SSD said that I did Cashiering for 5 hours that I can go back to that...Ummmmmmmmm, HELLLLLLLLO that was BEFORE I had my second surgery on my other arm and before finding out about my Fibro and starting Degenerative Disc Disease now too. In my letter they focused on the Diabetes only and stated since that was under control I had no issues. Nothing stating about Fibro or the depression or anxiety. OK, I can live on working for 5 hours/day, standing and doing repetitive use. UMMMMMMM, again, I think not.

Again, I know that everyone gets denies but just venting because I know you all understand! Just so frustrated right now. As I'm typing I'm in extreme pain but you want me to do repetitive use. UGH!

Get yourself a lawyer that is familiar with fibromyalgia. They know how to state things, what to emphasize.
BTW, I was denied twice and two months after the second denial, while I was waiting for my hearing which I was told could be up to two years, I received another letter saying it was reviewed again and they overturned it and I will be receiving my first check this month! Hold onto hope!

Thanks for the hope! I need it! I do have someone helping me. I guess all I can do is cross my fingers!

Bubbaryn,

You may denied a few times before you actually have a hearing. So be patient, but I would advise getting an attorney. They make it a lot easier and only take a small percentage of your backpay. It is worth it.

Congrats on you getting yours. I was denied but ended up going to work after that so it worked out.

Hi Miriam,

Quick question,if you can answer.Is the disability check the same amount that the government sends us ,and estimates what we might receive, if we are disabled. I think mine said around 1800.00.The letter comes in the mail every year with thevsocial severity estimation. It all depends on how long and how much you worked. Is that the same amount we will get when we get disability?? I've always wondered.

Bubbaryn, I'm sorry you didn't get it the first time.  It can be very difficult but I do think they need to review your case.  You have several things and diabetes isn't what is keeping you in pain.  You've gotten some good advice here.  Keep trying.

 

Congrats, Miriam!  I'm so glad that worked out.  Boy, you have had a lot of changes in the past year, haven't you!  AND they are all working for the good for you.  I'm really happy for you.

 

No, Sage.  I had to take disability and they deducted 29% off it.  Then they deducted for Medicare, which is the main reason I went for disability.  I have many chronic illnesses and when my husband passed on, no one would insure me. 

 

Anyway, I'm going to be 65 years old next year and the deduction will remain.  It will never go up to what I would have gotten if I could have waited.  It's a big chunk of change taken out for as long as you live.  They do this because you are getting money a lot longer than the average worker.

Getting By - Thanks! I have an advocate helping me out. Apparently in PA I skip step 2 and go automatically to a hearing but...hearing will take 9 months. Which, from what I was told, is a lot better then waiting 16months. Apparently my office goes through their cases pretty "quickly".

Sherrine - And about the Diabetes, that's exactly my point. I think I actually put the claim in with my Bilateral Cubital Tunnel as the main then added the Fibro and Diabetes. Between residual effects from the Cubital Tunnel and Fibro I'm screwed. Diabetes is totally under control right now. That's what made me so angry.

UGH! What we have to go through!

You act surprised that your initial application for disability benefits was denied.

calm down, get a disability lawyer based off a good recommendation (ask around from friends/family) and it will work out in a year or three. you will win your benefits.

Archiestyles - NO I'm not surprised about it. I expected it! It's just the reasoning that makes me go grrrrrrrr. I know enough about all this but it still gets to you regardless. I was venting. It's hard trying to deal with where is the income going to come from, deal with a 3yr old and deal with all this pain and fatigue and then hear NO even though you know it's coming.
