Has anyone seen my....?

It was last Saturday when grandson and I were making my newest version of oatmeal cookies. I got out the big mixer, moved tall stool over for him to sit on so he could help make a mess...I mean help make the cookies, got out the first few ingredients and away we went. Now, most often when I bake I put ingredients away as I'm done using them. This way when I'm done the kitchen has very little collateral damage.

So...I take the lid off of the Crisco shortening can and he and I scoop out 1/2 cup for the cookies and then added 1/2 cup of butter. Then we added the brown sugar and as usual he asks if he can 'see what it tastes like'... We shuffle a few things around and get the mixer going and I begin to put away the Crisco. Pop on the lid...wait, where IS the lid??? You know those whitish/clear plastic lids that come on the cans. (you know..you pull the metal or paper one off of the can and throw it away and then use the plastic one until the product is all gone.)

Well, I couldn't find that darn lid anywhere. I decided at the time not to call out the Coast Guard but it would show up when we (read:I)) were cleaning up. It was most likely in the cupboard where I keep the Crisco or in the sink or fell behind something when I wasn't looking.

Once grandson was done with out project and he'd eaten more than his share of cookie dough, I began to look in earnest for that darn lid. Around the counters?...nope; in the sink? ....nope; on the floor or beside the refrigerator?...nope nope; in the pantry?...nope again. I was getting a bit frustrated but I've learned with fibro that you just go do something else and the lost item will show up. A bit irked by the time I went to bed I figured I'd find it before sundown on Sunday.

OK, here it is Wednesday evening and do you think I've found that darn lid????? I looked in other cupboards, in the sink, in the trash, in the dogs' kennel/bed (she steals most anything with flavor if she can get away with it)nope, not there either. Not with the dog's toys, the childrens' toys or my toys...??? Anyway, so my question to all of you is..."Has anyone seen the lid to my large can of Crisco???"

In the mean time I pulled a plastic bag over the can and it will work til it's all gone but jeezzzz, I hate losing something that so obvious and was right there a few seconds before I looked. I can't seem to interest any of the men around this house to help. They just play the 'duck-and-run' game and get out of sight fast....except to come back for some cookies when they were on the cooling rack all chewy, gooey and wonderfully warm.

I lost my car keys once ( well several times in fact ) and I looked everywhere. I am looking on the counters, the table, in the drawers, in pants/jacket pockets and I am alternating between anger and panic because I am running late for work.

Finally I give up and call hubby and ask him if he had seen my blankety blank keys? He said "yeah, I put them away". Now thats a new one. He, my husband, put them away right on the key hook by the front door.

I don't know who I was madder at, him for putting them away (where his keys go) or me for not thinking to look there, where they were quite obvious (normally I keep them in my purse).

Chutz you might want to check in your freezer, seems to me alot of us with fibro find our stuff in the freezer. lol

Is it possible you stuck it on the bottom of the can? My grandmother used to do that.

Yeah I check the bottom of my Crisco, that's where I "lost" mine once.
Thought the two of them were teaming up on us. You know, me not understanding why I have a lid on the top and bottom.
Anyways, not there. Just the one on the top.

It's probably wherever my spare car keys are... which usually show in the pocket of a coat I could SWEAR I haven't worn for weeks. Or wherever my vanilla extract is. ????????????????????????????

It's probably in the same black hole that sucked in my garbage disposal plug. One minute I had it, the next "poof" it was gone. Finally gave up looking and bought a new one.
