Hello,

I usually post on various mental health forums, but I have a question about the painkiller, Lyrica (Pregabalin). It's only become lisenced in the EU for treatment of Generalised Anxiety Disorder, so I was prescribed it the other day in place of addictive benzodiazepines such as valium.

Aaaaaanyway, I was wondering if anybody has been on it? I know that it was developed to treat fibromyalgia, among other things. My question is this:

Weight Gain. How much? How quickly? Is it very dreadful/uncontrollable? I was just on something called zyprexa, and I've lost 28 pounds since coming off of it, and I'm still not down to my normal weight. I am *not doing that again*.

Hello,

That's interesting that Lyrica has been approved over there for anxiety. I found, personally, that it messed with my moods, especially when trying to come off it.

I don't want to worry you by telling you much weight I gained on it, but trust me, it was quite a bit. I've lost weight just by getting off it, and I'm trying to find exercises that my body can handle as well.

Some people however, do not have much of a problem with it. With any medication and its side effects, it really varies from person to person.

I have since switched to Neurontin (Gabapentin) which is the same type of medication, but does not seem to be affecting my weight as much.

hey.I was on lyrica.gained 50pounds in 3 months.then I changed to gaba after a year,was on that for 8 months.thinkin I would lose the weight..ha!went off it...bad...withdrawal,have to wean off slowwwly.then I thought I might get back to my regular weight.its been a year and it still here.And ya know Im not lazy,I have hashimotos too..b12 shots..vitd...plaquenil...amtriphaline.Im cleanin all the time,suppers dishes..stairs...and they said I was knda zombieish with the lyrica and neuro.but hey,if you can take it,great.but thats my story,and now they said I should lose weight,,somethin they never took a hand in gettin me in this weight mess.Im not huge ,just stocky.yuck.its terrible to get clothes.and my feet are so swollen half the time.they are kinda thinkin lupus as ana is pos. and sis has it..and all my symptoms.but their in charge eh.I also have a c-pap machine which goes along with fibro and cfs most times.great for the sex life.hubbies very understanding,thank God.ok...I am thankful for alot too.I just gotta vent sometimes.

Thanks guys. Seeing as I gained so much weight on lexapro years ago and then on zyprexa last year, I probably very much might gain weight on this. I REFUSE. I don't get how it works though. I mean. Does it stimulate your appetite so that you eat more and gain weight? Or do you gain weight on your own? Or what? Anyway I'm going to be insanely watching what I eat and exercising.

After reading your post I got depressed. I thought all the weight I lost was due to something wonderful I did like not eating all the little snack size candy bars that my husband brings in to the living room to "share" during commercials. Maybe I lost weight because I stopped drinking so much soda even though I didn't drink hardly any to begin with. Then I realized what it really was, my stupid medicine! I just had a neurostimulator put in my back and it will and has blocked pain so I don't need my other meds. Hopefully my weight loss had nothing to do with my meds and I'm not going back up three dress sizes!
