Donnaeil, I'm not trying to argue with you. I firmly believe in medical science. It has saved my life. I've taken narcotics, steroids and other medications, too. Sometimes there is no choice.
Several of our mods are on meds, too, and this is discussed openly on this forum. Chutz, Jeannie, and Getting By do use some of these medications. They get relief from them. I don't, and I manage very nicely without them so I want to let members know that some of them might be able to do this, also.
Percocet and Vicodin are two of the most widely used opioids and they both contain Tylenol. They just took Darvocet off the market for this very reason. A good doctor will run a liver panel every six months. Mine does that and I know, so far, my liver has not been affected. I also am very careful to take no more than the maximum amount. I don't pop them like candy. I take them as needed.
I'm definitely not one to run to the health food store. I really believe in our wonderful doctors and hospitals. But I also believe in arming myself with knowledge so I can make the right decisions for myself. My husband and I left the decisions about his health to our doctor up north. We told him about all the symptoms he was having and he assured us that my husband was suffering from stress. We believed him and never researched it out. He dropped dead at age 51 with a massive heart attack. So, I, too, have a family history and because of this, I research things and check every aspect of what I'm searching.
I'm "big" on giving people many choices and then leave it up to them to decide what is best for their particular circumstances. I'm glad you are taking whatever it is. I do find it a little odd that you won't tell us what you are taking that is helping you so much but that's totally up to you. You are getting the relief you are looking for and that's good. I also want people to see that they just might not have to take these medicatons, too, and still have a full and enjoyable life in spite of fibro.
So, here's to a good life in spite of fibromyalgia. Whether you take narcotics or can manage the more natural route, quality of life is what we are all reaching for!
