Any notice problems with their brain function beyond just that of an occasional bout of fibro fog?
I can't figure out if it is fibro itself or the combination of all the medicines I take, but my brain is not the same anymore. I am only 22 and I feel like I'm getting old!
Someone tells me something, and sometimes I can forget it in a matter of 5 minutes. Sometimes simple things really confuse me. School work is becoming harder and harder. I'm having trouble with names. I feel like at times I am seriously going crazy.
Anyone suffer from this as well? Anyone have suggestions? Are there supplements that help brain function? Anything?
Thanks,
Sarah

Yes, but I try not to suffer. I like to enjoy life. Humor is the best medicine.

I wished I could find that magic pill myself! There are days that I just feel so dingy. I have a really hard time remembering names but not faces. I have a little trick for that, if someone tells me there name, I think of something that rhymes with it...for instance the name Sherry(my name btw) I think in my head Sherry very berry cherry :) Something silly but usually it works....not always because sometimes there are names that you just can't make things rhyme with!

You do have quite a list of medications. Google them and see if they can cause memory problems. If some do, that along with the fog could be difficult. I do stupid things with fibro fog but I can function just fine.

I am always forgetting things and according to my hubby I ask him the same question several times and tell him the same story several times, but thats the way he sees it, lol. Maybe I am asking him to see if I get different answers?? lol. Hmmm I am feeling pretty old these days and yes to some of you young ones I am but I still have a good 20 or more years left in me to enjoy. I would actually do as Sherrine suggests and research your meds I know the side effects on some of my meds are terrible.

YES! I am 23 years old and I had convinced myself that I had MS, but apparently it's just the great Fibro! I can't remember taking my meds, what I did 5 mins ago, and other silly things that normal people don't forget. I went into my managers office the other day and had to walk back out because I had no idea what I went in there for. I would try to check the side effects of your medications as well. I try to write things down more then once, for example I have 3 calendars and I record appointments and events on all 3 to make sure that I don't forget. I have my work schedule written out and we cross out the days on the calendar because I'll wake up and not remember what day it is!
I have also noticed that it impares your speech. I can't get words out, or I say the wrong words, or I slurr.... sooo much fun! It turns my boyfriend on..... hahah j/k

nsbennet - is this due to the meds you are taking or is this something that happens with Fibro. I am currently in school and this past semester and last semester was pretty hard concentrating, remembering what I just studied. Feeling no energy to keep up with anything. I am just learning about
Fibro and trying to find the best dr to go to, to get the right diagnosis.

I am 32 yrs old - almost 33 yrs - and I would forget my head if it was not attached! If I had a dime for everytime I started something and did not finish it because I got distracted and then later realized that task I thought I finished was not done - I be a millionare! Worse thing I ever did was leave the oven on - other adults in house now check to make sure things are off when I get done cooking.

Sarah...both Lunesta and Requip list memory impairment/loss as side effects of the medications. I would check that out with your doctor as having fibro fog is bad enough but having a drug make it worse...that could be corrected.

Fitgrl, yes, we have cognitive memory problems. Be sure to read Fibro 101. It explains a lot about
fibro so you won't be wondering. But, take heart! We have had many members get their college education and move on to their Masters. It can be done. Also, many of the members have good jobs so you can learn and advance with fibro. I know this is frightening to you but you will learn how to work around it, too, to have a full and enjoyable life in spite of this illness. I know because I have.

Fitgirl,
I have changed my medications to see if it was due to the meds but I haven't had any improvement with any of my "brain" issues. I started back on Fluoxetine, because they told me that it could be due to anxiety and that hasn't helped me, I never thought that it was an anxiety issue but I went along with the doctors recommendation. I am also in school and I find it really hard to concentrate and I have to reread things inorder to fully understand what I am reading about
. I thought that maybe I had something more serious going on with my brain but the neurologist said that my brain is fine. It makes me feel like I have alzheimers, that's literally how bad it gets. I answer phone calls at work, put the call on hold and by the time I call to another area of the clinic I can't remember who is on the phone anymore :(
I think that you have to figure out what things you really need to learn and focus in on those things. I read everything for my classes and I have to make notes, notes that I can understand when I go back to study. We just have to learn how to do things a little bit different then everyone else. Learn your strengths and your weaknesses, making flash cards have helped me out a lot, and I try to always take notes of things. I know that when I get home I won't remember to do something so I have to make a note to remind myself or call my bf so he will remind me!
This isn't the greatest illness to have, but it's also not the worst. You can most certainly get through school, just make your instructors aware of what is going on, they will be understanding, and ask for help whenever you need it. I think that's the only way that I'm able to get good grades, because I know that the instructors know what i'm going through and I'm not just pushing my education to the side, I am trying, I just may not get it as fast as everyone else.

I think it is the fibro and the medicines.I don't take any medications by personal choice but I have looked alot of medications up and they always have some sort of side effects.

My brain always has more trouble when I am in a flare. When it happens, I stop trying to think and do something else. That helps because trying to force yourself to think is extremely frustrating and exhausting and makes it worse!
I, too, am in school, which is why I have been absent for a little while. Trying to learn signal detection theory by Monday. Also, this weekend, I need to write part of a final and the next class midterm and do some data analysis. Spacing that kind of mental activity with physical activity makes both easier to do.
I also take prenatal vitamins, e, b, fish oil, coq10, d, and c. Don't know if it is helping, though.

A year ago she found that I was low. At that time she wanted me to increase my salt intake, making sure to use fresh iodized salt. Now I am lower than a year ago.
When I asked what iodine effected she replied, "Mostly brain function." She told me once I got my iodine levels back up to normal, through supplements, my brain will be crystal clear. I was quite trilled. I was beginning to think I was experiencing early onset Alzheimer's
This may be something you want to look into to. Asking your doctor would be my first line of action. After she told me this I did some research and found a self test for iodine. Just Google it. The self test did confirm what she told me.
Good Luck!
