Hi, Thank you for the kind response. Son is sometimes a little better and sometimes aweful. I did take him to a phychiatrist. I thought this was going well for a while. (Turns out that my son swore at the doc. one time...I was there...nothing threatening or anything...The idoit (who I put so much faith in/my sons life) he dumped my son as his patient and sent him out of that practice all together!) UNREAL!! My son was willing to go there...seeking help actually begging for help and that over paid fool dumped him!

My son had a good reason for being angry. He did not want an antidepresant and the doc. knew that. I did appreciate that the doc. listened to David and tried to wait to precribe until my son was ready. David feels that he does not matabolize pills corectly...So the doc. precribed liquid Lexapro. Lexapro was on the list of meds. that don't work well for David and the doc. knew that but liquid meds are harder to come by.

David had a horrible reaction to the med. with the first dose. He was shaking-crying just really having some sort of a break down he was having severe pain in his head,stomach,felt like his brain was burning and he did not sleep at all that night.

I called doc. got no response. I told his nurse what was going on still no response. about 5 days later my son ends up in the ER because he hasn't been able to sleep. They gave him sleeping pills and sent him home. Again I call doc. with no response...Son went to family doc. who precribed Ativan and it still took several hours for him to fall to sleep and the sleep was low quality.
I call the doc. they set up an app. This app. was atleast one month without a good nights sleep for David. Anyway at the app. doc. has no good advise son hasn't slept thru the night for atleast a month. When the doc. says that David should continue the Lexapro David did swear and was dismissed.

I don't know if you've ever been around somebody who could not sleep but this is real torcher! He was really shaking and even wishing for death. He continues to have problems with sleep and a very dry throat (you can hear him swallowing from across the room...His eyes are very dry) Something happened when he took that Lexapro! He got so very sick after he took it.

I'm so sorry this has happened to you.  There are some doctors that really don't understand.  If your son has reactions to medications like you described, I would have had him stop immediately.  So many times we can't reach our doctors and we need to take matters into our own hands.  I wish I had done that years ago.  Instead, I was having reactions and continued taking the medication because the doctor told me to and I paid a big price for that.   I'm glad he is off the Lexapro.  Quite a few people have problems with that medication.

 

Most of us have a lot of problems sleeping.  That is not unusual for fibro.  I keep myself on a sleep schedule and that has helped me a lot.  I'm never in bed unless it's nighttime and time to sleep.  My body is accustomed to that and I usually fall asleep within a few minutes.  But, I have the TV running in the background and that helps me, too.  I do drift in and out of sleep all night long and get up 2-3 times a night, too, so I don't get great sleep either.  I think it goes with the territory. 

 

You might ask your PC doctor about having your son have a sleep study done.  Quite a few on here have a C-Pap machine and that has helped them sleep better.

Hi, Really my son didn't throw a fit by any means. He was sitting in a non-threatening position when he swore at the doc.

I can't understand why a phychiatrist would expect everybody that he treats to walk in to the office perfectly happy. Unreal! He claims to treat all sorts of mood disorders and such but he is not able to treat my son. My son is in cronic pain trying so hard to get better. Then after a month with very little sleep caused by the med. that that doc. prescribed he was shaking and crying and so upset with this lack of sleep...he did swear and then he was dumpped with no answers and very little hope. I doubt there is a doc. anywhere in Pa that can help my son. I have bills from this doctor! He has a lot of nerve sending me bills!

Thanks Sherrie- Yes we have been to many of the UPMC hospitals-We were sent away by ALL of them with ...Take him to a Phych. Doctor because he has to get the depression under control before they can help him with the pain??

He even went to a UPMC fibro doc. and was sent away!

The hardest thing about this is that He was not willing to go to a phych doc.
I finally got him there and he went for a couple months to be dumped. It was so aweful! They really pulled the rug out from under my life.(and his)

I get so upset at the thought of it. I tried for years.

He is going to a new doctor on Monday the 23?  This guy was recomended by a friend (one of his doctors) he has no friends and some of his docs. seem to care. This is about the only time he goes anywhere.  Anyway the guy he will see is a DO instead of a MD.

We were told that he will care more about David than test results.

I feel like my son has been getting the run around. This has been going on for years. It really makes me sick.

I think the phych. doc. knew that he did the wrong thing by prescribing that med. and maybe that is why he dismissed my son?

Sonhas, my doc is a DO. If I remember correctly they treat the whole body, or something like that. Wishing him well on his visit, he is too young to be going through so much without any help. (I know you are there for him but I mean medical help).
