Surgery today and I'm flaring

I've felt pretty good for the last week. I've gotten everything done from moving, life is back in order and we're as set as we can be for the boys' birthday party coming up. I didn't sleep well Saturday night or last night and spent the day yesterday pretty much sitting around. This morning I woke up in PAIN and I'm scheduled for my hysterectomy/ganglion cyst removal at noon. I was told not to take my pain meds this morning unless I absolutely have to. It's not at that point yet but it's close.

I am SO nervous. I know that I'm going to be having an IV started this morning and it's going to hurt exponentially more with the flare. I am going to ask for something in my IV for pain as soon as it's in but I don't know what they'll be willing to give me. I hope the flare stops by the time surgery is over (laughable wish, for sure). I know that being immobilized for surgery is going to make the pain that much worse on the other side. Yes, I'll be doped up on meds for surgical pain but that's probably not going to do a whole lot of good for the fibro pain if it's a narcotic. It's going to be a very interesting day...

Evenkeel,

Try to relax and keep a good attitude, don't project the pain. I am sure that the narcotics that they give you in surgery will help with the fibro pain. They say it doesn't , but I know better. Keep thinking good thoughts. I hope that your surgery goes well. I will be keeping you in my prayers and thoughts.

Evenkeel,

I hope all goes well with your surgeries, I would do like you and suffer through the pain until I got to hospital rather than take any chances of drug interactions or such. When I had my hysterectomy 29 years ago things were alot different then. When you get a chance let us know how things went for you. Can you feel the good vibes being sent your way?? I hope so : )

Evenkeel, I hope all has gone well for you. Praying for a good recovery for you, with no extra problems because of your Fibro flare.

Well, I just saw this and your surgery should be over by now.  That's good.  Now you are on the mend and will feel better soon!

hope the surgery went good,I know you were nervous,I got that way when I had my treacheal surgery......so bad that they shot me up with a sedative an hour before.Here is to a little less pain.

Surgery went fine on both accounts. I ended up having a full abdominal hysterectomy and lost my one remaining ovary. Turns out I had severe endometriosis and massive scar tissue from my previous surgeries. My OB/GYN said he's glad I had it done as there was nothing else to be done to help the pain and bleeding. Everything was glued to each other down there, including my bladder to my uterus. I had one large ganglion cyst that went way deep into my wrist and several smaller ones next to it trying to come up. The ortho said that's why I had numbness, my wrist being full of cysts and impinging on the nerves.

Pain control isn't the best yet. I was at a 7-9 from after surgery to this morning despite a PCA with fentanyl plus toradol, tramadol, and phenergen. My lower back was the worst at time, feeling like a sharp burning pain for hours. Once I was able to get the cath out this morning and get up a lot of the back pain went away. I have plenty of belly pain but I'm going to have that with as much as he had to clean up in there. As long as I don't move too much I'm pretty good, 4-5 pain scale. I can feel the fibro pain in my arms also, which makes me mad because the doctor refuses to order the Tylenol to go with the tramadol that makes it work. Can't wait to go home tomorrow...

I'm glad that's over with and you are on the mend now.  You might feel a lot better in just a few days.  I sure hope so.

 

By the way, your doctor probably doesn't want  you to take Tylenol with Tramadol because Tramadol already has acetaminophen (Tylenol) in it already.  People are overdosing on acetaminophen because it's put in a lot of things...especially over the counter things....and they don't realize it and this can lead to liver problems.  This is why Darvocet was taken off the market.  So, your doctor is being very safe with you.

I am so happy that your surgery is over and it sounds like things went well. It takes time to heal so be patient. Take good care of yourself. Let us know how you are doing.

Tramadol (Ultram) does not have tylenol in it. Ultracet is the version of tramadol with tylenol in it. I don't think there is a generic for Ultracet yet.

Dagger's right. I take tramadol with the acetaminophen separate because it's way cheaper than the brand-name Ultracet combination. I'm home now, taking lortab and prescription aleve alongside the tramadol (no tylenol until I stop the lortab). I'm very tired, and confused (haven't been given any literature on what to expect/what's normal or anything about HRT that I've been started on). I can't wait to get the splint off my wrist tomorrow so I can put my hair up properly. I'm going to be looking for some guidance here in the HRT department, as what little I've found so far may have an impact on my fibro.

Ugh. Fix one thing, break three others....

I take tramadol with acetaminophen ( generic for ultracet). My daughter takes tramadol (generic for ultram). That is exactly what is written on the bottles. So, there is a generic for both.

I didn't know there was a generic for Ultracet. Do you know if it's one of the $4 generics from Walmart or Target? They don't list everything on their website lists.

I cannot answer for sure as I do not use either of these places to fill my prescriptions. sorry
