I just found out last week that I now have type 2 diabetes. I have spent the last several days learning whatever I could about diabetes. I truly believe that I have had symptoms for over year. The interesting thing is that my fasting glucose doesn't qualify me for diabetes. I have only been diagnosed because my endo had me do a 2 hr glucose tolerance test and I failed. They already have me on medication that is meant to protect the cells in my pancreas and I have to record my fasting blood sugar every morning. My diabetes education class is this week. I really hope this helps with some of my symptoms. It also makes my gastroparesis diagnosis make more sense. Anyone else have diabetes and fibro? If you have any advice, I'll take it. I've had Type 2 Diabetes for 19 years.  The best advice I can give you is don't eat a lot of carbs and of course sugar.  Stick with veggies, lean meats and whatever fresh fruits that don't spike your sugar.  Exercise, too.  That's important and keep your weight down.  All of this helps.  I don't have any side affects from this because I've tried to do things the right way.  I have my A1C done twice a year and have very good control of this disease.

This is why I want to buy a machine and do some studies on my sugar. I have some crazy symptoms sometimes.

Have you looked into cinnamon capsules for helping to control your diabetes? There
are some good sites to check out on this. I'm using it for energy along with raw honey.
Used together there are some great results from different ailments.

Hello, I was diagnosed with Diabetes before my Fibro. The diabetes was the beginning of all my illnesses diagnosed last year. I weighed 224lbs at my highest in Nov 09 and now I'm 173. I basically just changed over to drinking Crystal Light and lowered my food intake. When I was diagnosed I was at 9.6 and my last reading was 5.5 so it continually came down. I take Metformin 1x/day. I still eat things I shouldn't but I buy the no sugar added stuff. But just because it says no sugar added doesn't mean you can eat a bunch because to much of that stuff can make you sick. I haven't exercised really but WHAT I do do is, keep my drinking cup upstairs so when I want something to drink I have to go up steps. With the Fibro it kills me going up the steps but it helps me get exercise in the house if I don't go out. Once you can get the Diabetes under control it's fine. You just have to stay vigilant with what you eat. My issues aren't the Diabetes but the Fibro. Diabetes has become a back burner for me with having the Fibro and Bi Lateral Cubital Tunnel! Good luck with it! It's a lot to take in but when you do you'll be fine.

Have any of you tried chromium 3 supplementation from a whole food source like Innate Response or Mega Foods brands?  Chromium 3 can help adult onset diabetics wean themselves off insulin over time because it stabilizes the blood sugar.  It must be noted that other forms and combinations of chromium are toxic.  Chromium 3 is removed from flour and sugar in the refining process, so we are no longer getting in in our diets.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will go check out the HW Diabetes forum and research the supplements mention above. I have my diabetes education class tomorrow and Thursday, so that should help me with what I need to be eating. I really have to change what I eat.
