Feeling Like I've Run a Marathon Upon Awakening

Does anyone else get the sense that their body shuts down when they sleep at night or when taking a nap. When I awaken I constantly feel like ive been run over by a steam roller. My hands especially are hard to get going... I have very weak grip for an hour or so afterwareds. I can feel not too bad, with the exception of being tired so I'll take a nap.... but have such a hard time getting out of bed because I see so brittle.

Just wondering if others go through this same type of thing.

I sure do know what you mean about feeling 'brittle'. In the morning it's so painful to get up and standing and then you have to consider the thought of actually moving...as in walking...lol It's funny but it's NOT funny. I too feel so much pain even if I've slept for a short time and get up again. My strength has been affected also but I will add to the mix that I have arthritis gaining speed in my hands, especially my dominant hand. By night time my neck/shoulders are the worst part as if that truck that hit you, then came over and ran me down...well, feels like he backed up to take a second look!

I'm going to guess that the two of us have a lot of company out there...

jr911 you are not alone! I wake up every morning exhausted, stiff and sore and it takes me so long to get my day started. I find that gentle yoga and stretching and/or a hot shower can do wonders.

it's too bad we start a new day in pain. I lie there, do some deep breathing THEN I sit on edge of bed, garnering courage and I also say my prayers then too. My hands hurt so bad I cup them around my mug for warmth-that helps. I do light upper body weights after coffee and warm shower. Anyway, what's a girl to do? Good luck

thanks everyone for your replies. Today was one of those odd days that I could get some stuff done around the house. I was doing some little projects around the house and got a lot accomplished. Now here it is midnight... after 2 hours of lying in bed not sleeping because of every muscle in my body paining I had to get up. Why is it that doing simple house chores can make my muscles so fatigued and painful. Is this really typical of fibromyalgia? I have not been diagnosed, and I'm curious to know if this sounds "text book" of fibro or not. This has been going on for a year now and it's worse than it was a year ago. Does it ever get any better?

Hello All, Well been suffering for a good few yrs. with arm and leg muscle pain. Some days it is not too bad and other days it hurts so badly. Thing is i am a very muscular person so this is make me feel like a total wimp when i have it really bad some days.   I have been to the doctor a few times over the years and they say nothing is wrong. they have done a few blood test and other stuff and find nothing at all. I am not a person that things i have everything in the world wrong with me and find it had to get my head around why on earth i hurt so so much. i find it is very bad when i get up and my arms, well mainly my forearms and hands hurt and my legs and ankles. I can only describe the pain as if i have had to fight 30 people the night before. Or that i have just run a marathon the day before. Not that i have ever run a marathon but i think that’s how you might feel :) I find hot baths and showers help me a lot and get me going or in the evening if i have a bath i then don’t have to go to bed hurting like hell. I have found however that if i can motivate myself to lose weight and play squash 2 or 3 times a week that after a month or so the pain is almost gone. So you would say just do that then, but never as easy as all that is it and keeping up a regimentally diet and exercise does not always fit in around family and work to be honest. yer i know maybe that’s a bit of a cop out. There has to be something that can be done to stop the pain once and for all? Some magic pill or something.

Yep!  Add me to the group.  But, I do stretching exercises in bed before trying to get out of it.  This does help.  I do roll on my side and bring my knees up to my chest and then stretch my legs out and point my feet down and then up.  I also stretch my arms out.  Then I get out of bed and still need a cane to get to the bathroom.  BUT, shortly after moving around, I do feel a lot looser so I head out for my walk.  By the time I get home, I'm a whole lot better plus I have more energy.

Hi there, when I wake in the morning I take a pain killer, do a relaxation cd and then attempt to get out of bed, my feet hurt my hips hurt my hands kill me in the morning everything is so stiff....

Oh yes, me too! In the morning I have to lay on my stomach (in bed still), bring my knees up and lay my chest on them. This is the yoga "child's pose". I have to lay like this for some time just to be able to sit up. The I do other small stretches and ankle rolls. Then I limp to the bathroom.

After that I get dressed and take the dog for a 1 and half to 2 mile walk. In the beginning I feel like I can't do it but I feel better by the time I get home. I do kind of have to force myself to get going but I know it will help me.

Added to good old fibro I have lots of arthritis too, manly in the hips and spine. But for me moving is the best medicine.

Oh gosh....that is the best way I have found to describe my pain to people who don't understand what I am feeling. So yes, I feel your pain. I feel like that very, very often.

Hi , I am 35 Male. for the last 1 month my legs feel like I ran a marathon with back & neck pain , low grade feverish (which never goes beyond 99.5) and burning sensation. I also feel fatigue and pain in my arm and fingers even if i perform simple activities like combing my hair. I am getting worried, can some one help me . Thanks
