tingling and numbness in hands

Tingling and numbness in right hand used to only happen while driving now it occurs daily and is harder to get to go away. I used to be able to lower my arm and it would lessen but that doesn't work so well anymore. Does this happen to anyone else? Any ideas to prevent and or make it stop any sooner?

Sounds like carpal tunnel..have you seen a neurologist?

Maria I am having similar issues and dr said carpel tunnel and referred me to neuro for testing, also prescribed wrist and hand braces which I try to wear

Do you use the computer a lot? With your right hand by chance (the mouse). This gets really bad for me sometimes, and I will have to switch out the mouse to my left hand.

I've dealt with that for years.  It can be carpal tunnel but because I use an anti inflammatory (ibuprofen) this has helped and it now doesn't usually bother me.  I did try wrist braces but they bothered me more than the carpal tunnel!

Sherrine I know what you mean the braces are so hot and they are always in the way. I've done the brace thing for about 20 years I wear them everyday for 4 weeks and it gives me time to recover. I know people who wear them at night but I can't they bother me too much at night.

It could be carpal tunnel or circulation? Do you have bad circulation in your hands or do your fingers ever turn purple? If it is carpal tunnel, you could try a brace like they've said and if it gets bad enough you may need surgery. I hope you feel better.

have this in my left foot,diagnosed tarsal tunnel,same as carpal tunnel only different place

Doesn't always have to be carpel tunnel. Could be something with cervical discs in neck. That is where the EMG testing comes into action. See mine are from cervical disc. Do you have that deep pain that radiates wrist to elbow?

My hand problems are due to a fusion in my neck c5/c6 I am due for another cervical facet and that helped for about 3 months just would like to get last injections paid before starting the next round. Thanks for all the input, this site is really a relief.

I agree with the rest, sounds a lot like carpal tunnel. My dad in law recently got operated for it, was a poretty straight forward procedure, no big scars, no overnighg stays at the hospital. I would get it checked out if it realy starts to bother you.

I would just like to add that it could easily be that you are holding the steering wheel incorrectly. You mentioned that it bothered you when driving, right? My hubby had the same problem. He also complained that it bothered him while sleeping. He holds the steering wheel with his hand and wrist resting on the top of the steering wheel. At night he sleeps with his hand curled up under his chin. Learning to avoid those two postures helped relieve his pain.
He also uses the wrist bands for back up.

 I have the exact same thing, getting progressively worse. Mine is in both hands. Mine was diagnosed as bilateral ulnar nerve entrapment. (Elbow problem). Getting harder and harder to do everyday things like shower, my hair, my job. I have to try physical therapy first. Haven't started yet. Then to an orthopaedic if that doesn't work. Hope this helps.
