I just saw my Fibromyalgia doctor today and he prescribed me Garapentin (generic of Neurotin). I am hoping that this will help me a little bit. Has anyone have any good or bad experiences with it. Thank you all again for your support.

I took neurontin for awhile. They prescribed it at the psych hospital for my fibro "nerve" pain. I really have very little of the stabbing sharp piercing nerve pain that a lot of you have. I have deep muscle and joint pain. So I stopped taking it(they had me up to 20 scripts).

But from what I have heard it does work well for alot of people, but can make you groggy. I hope it helps

I began using Garapentin about 2 months ago. At first it made me sooo sleepy but that has gone away. It has helped with the "itching" back feeling but no so much with my hands the tingling and numbness persist. Might not be up to adequate dose yet? My pharmacy suggested i take one in the morning one in the afternoon and 2 at night and that has worked for me. good luck and i hope it helps you.

Thanks all. I am taking it because of all of my muscle and bone pain and severe headaches I get. I was told to step the does, like in the first week, take 1 tsp at night. Then the second week, take one in the morning and one at night. Then the third week, take one in morning, one in afternoon, and one at night.
I take all my medications liquid due to having my colon taken out 3 years ago and unable to digest any medications in pill, tablet, or powder form.
I also take propronolol for tremors and generic prozac for ocd.
Thanks all for the wonderful advice. I am nervous about any medications, not just this one.

I take gabapentin and like it. I was having major tingling in my hands/arms and feet/legs. I stepped up to 300 mg 3x/day and only have VERY occasional mild tingling in my toes now. I was very tired with each step but by the end of each week it went away. I don't know how much it helps my pain because it took so long to step up that I had several flares during the course of it.

I take 300mg 6xday, it helps my nerve pain and helps me sleep, but it doesn't help the sensations associated with the nerve pain. It also helps my back pain. I've had no side effects from it.

I just want to say that I am actually liking this Neurotin medication. I am actually having an excellent sleep, and actually feel somewhat well rested. I still have my fatigue, but instead of it being severe, it is now moderate. My pain, even though I still have it but in some areas I have it moderate (like in my legs and back). Even though I still have severe pain in my neck, hips, and other areas, but some of my symptoms have been more manageable. Also, I am actually able to eat real food as well. I was living on baby food, but this med helps slow down my G. I. tract. Though I still have diarrhea, but I do not go to the bathroom as much and I can at least handle real food. I actually made gluten free/allergen free brownies yesterday and was able to handle them. I am so glad that I got on the medication. I may need more meds for my more severe pains, but at least this is a start.

Hello all, I am Kathy (aka nini53)  I usually post on the chronic pain forum, but I took a look at this forum as I have fibromyalgia also.

I also take neurontin (in generic form) 300mg 3xday.  I have found this medicine very effective in keeping the all over pain under control.

When I was first diagnosed, the only meds I had heard of was Lyrica.  I gotta tell you the side effects really scared me.  I myself have no side effects with the neurontin.  In the beginning I did get a little sleepy but that soon went away.

Now if I cant sleep, I will take an extra pill at night time.  This was with prior approval from my pm doctor.  So stick with it, hopefully you will get the same good results many of us have had.

Hey everyone,

I also take gabapentin 600 mgx3 day. I have severe burning in my lower back and buttocks..it does help, but I haven't noticed it helping with sleep..or that it makes me sleepy. I also could not tolerate Lyrica. I can't tell you how many times people come up to me after they here I have fibro and how bad it gets for me, you should really try Lyrica...duh, you think...

I think the gabapentin is a good medicine...at least for me...remember we are all different...listen to your body..

I take neurontin twice a day but think it should be three times.

Missed my last Drs. visit so I'm waiting to talk to him before increasing it.

I take 3 meds for different types of pain.

I have tried to not take one or the other and find that by the end of the day or the next day I am in pain like crazy all over agian.

I only take the vicodine if I really need too. But sometimes that doesn't even help. When that happens I usually give up and rest for a while.

We all are different and handle pain differently as well.

I have been doing okay on it. Though I still have my usually sever pains, but at least my fatigue, when I have my morning coffee anyway is okay. If I don't have coffee or if it is a bad day where the weather is too hot, cold, rainy, and such, than I am a sleep and severely in pain. My headaches, are somewhat less frequent, but my sleep is okay. I still get up at 3am for at least an hour, though for the first week I slept like a baby. Other than that, I also had found that taking one day at a time and doing things, like chores, in little pieces and relaxing more has helped me a bit.
I also have been doing more crossword puzzles, more able to take my daily 30 min. walks, and as long as I have a routine where there is more relaxing activities and no exertion of physical energy what so ever, than I have a good day.
