It's easy for me to do this today, because I am having a fairly good day. My husband has taken 2 of our 4 kids out of the house today, so that has reduced my stress.

Wondering how many jokes we can make about Fibro today to knock away some of the power it tries to hold over us. While I was waiting at my rheumatologist's office, they showed a video about a woman who has diabetes who jokes about diabetes while she educates people about the condition. It made me think about what could/would be said if it was about Fibro. . .

So, if you were doing a stand up routine about Fibro, what would you say?

Here's mine ( what I have so far)

I'm thinking about starting a website for Fibromites. It'll be called Fibrobook. As you might guess, it's like Facebook. But, the catch is that you can only post status updates about where your pain is.

I don't think the site will last very long. Oh well, there's always Fwitter.

I've started an offline support group for Fibromites. We've scheduled 15 meetings, but nobody shows up because we all feel like sh**! The good thing is thst nobody gives anyone else a guilt trip about it because everybody understands.

Funny word, "Fibromites." They might have been in the Bible. I think that was one of the tribes. They looked back & held the same position for 15 minutes & their muscles turned to stone.

On 2nd thought, I don't like that last bit, but there must be something we can come up with for the word fibromites.

I think that is so funny. You are right. WE have to have some positivity in our illness. I do the same thing where my positivity might come from "making fun" of my illness and myself with it. I also have no colon (due to a colectomy) and the joke I make about the consequences and stuff are hilarious.
I am very glad that you are able to have some sense of humor and things. Whatever works to make you positive, it is okay in my book.

Do you think your surgery is what led to Fibromyalgia, or do you think you had it, but just were not diagnosed until later?

What a great idea! Too bad my brain is turned off right now...nothing's coming. Maybe later :)

Apple venus,

My surgery was unrelated to the fibromyalgia, but it causes the IbS of fibro to be a lot worse. However, I started to have my fibromyalgia pains before the surgery with shoulder and arm pains and severe headaches. But the pains started everywhere one year after the surgery. I am not sure if it set it off, but because of the surgery, which also made me underweight, many doctors thought it was my weight that caused my pains.
But then a few months ago, I took control and paid a lot of money for a chiropractor, who was not covered by insurance. It was the best money I had spent. He found the pinpoints and tried some treatments, which involved having this "activator" to help move my bones. But it made things worse. So he referred me to a Neurologist, who did a bunch of test and I even explained in detail all of my symptoms and made sure all of my medical records, emergency room records from my back, neck, and other pains got to them.
That was when I finally got the Fibromyalgia diagnosis and now seeing the fibro specialist at the NeuroHealth Center. I am now on Gabapentin (Neurotin). It helps somewhat, but I still have my bad days and have to take everything very slow and not take on too much.
I went from sever fatigue and severe to profound pain everyday to having moderate fatigue everyday and moderate pain in only my neck with the medication. But as I stay on a dose, after a month, it wears off, so I have to increase it.

Oh wow, this makes me think back to yesterday:D My mother-in-law has thyroid issues *Hasshimotos thyroiditis* and she has finds that between us, our symptoms overlap which most websites say is common.

So anyway, we would be talking and something she'd say would just get flipped around to another word. So I'd say 'Oh! You're thyroiding again'. She nearly fell off her chair laughing:D

It's so great that we can both blame our tongue-tie on something other than a brain-to-mouth disconnect with no name :D I've been having that issue for years, but my friends and I are able to laugh it off, and it goes seemingly un-noticed as this is the norm for me nowadays;) I'm also able to just go 'blah blah blah blah blah' once my tongue carries off without me:D:D:D Lol.

Please everyone have a hardy-tummy laugh once in a while. It's one of the best prescriptions doctors don't want to give you because it's free;p;p;p

Oh the lighter side of fibro. I have heard in a lot of comments about the Fibro Fairy in my research. I get 'visits' regularly from her. When I was helping my daughter understand me not remembering things or using wrong words, I told her about the Fibro Fairy. Now, she says that darn Fibro Fairy and when it gets really bad she says she is going to find that fibro fairy and beat her with a baseball bat. Not using the right words can be really funny especially when I am talking to my family. One night we couldn't find one of my dogs and we were calling for him in the house and we could hear him whining and I went to my bathroom door and said Honey his stuck in the garage...... First it was the bathroom second we were inside the house and third is we have a detached garage.... Wow, my husband just looked at me and laughed. smilewinkgrin

applevenus that was great. The one about the Fibromites turning to stone gave me my first best laugh of the day!!
