I have not been diagnosed with Fibro yet but my Dr. suspects that I do and is running tests to eliminate other things. I have been in pain for yrs. but nothing as severe as what I see other people here have which makes me think maybe I don't have it. I do have a lot of the symptoms but just not as bad. I am currently taking Tramadol and 800 Ibuprophin

Hope you all don't mind that I'm here since I have not had a positive diag.

Hi Glass Olive, welcome to the forum! Many join the forum during the process of trying to get a diagnosis....as you already know it does take some time. I'm glad that your doc is thorough, running tests to eliminate other posssibilities.

We are all unique so some of our symptoms may differ. When it comes to meds, it's the same thing...what works for one may not work for another.
For fibro, I take Savella, muscle relaxers when needed, Vitamain D3 and vitamin B-12.

Please read fibro 101 on the top of the page. Sherrine has put together a wonderful resource of info for the fibromite.

Kudos to you for getting medical experts to help you figure things out, and even more kudos to them for ordering the tests to rule things out. That's the best way to get an accurate diagnosis.

Just because your symptoms aren't as severe as some of the people here doesn't mean you don't have fibro. I'm fortunate in that I am still able to work, while many here cannot. I don't always know from day to day what tomorrow will bring, other than the fact that I always have pain -- just the level varies from day to day. Some days I feel as though a mack truck drove over me, other days it feels as though I have been pummeled with a baseball bat, and some days the fatigue is so overwhelming that I can't pull myself out of bed.

Yet, by the same token, a day or two later I may have done a complete turnaround after giving my body the rest it needs. The other things to note is that many people here are diagnosed with multiple things, so some of them are battling a handful of debilitating diseases and understandably have a great deal more pain or limitations in their schedules.

One of our moderators, Sherrine, always gives good advice and reminds us how important it is to do gentle stretching and keep moving. We don't have to be fine-tuned athletes, but by keeping on the move it helps your body immensely. Otherwise it stiffens up and the pain gets a lot worse.

While your doctors are running tests, hopefully they will check your Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D levels. Many fibromites are deficient in these and supplementation helps improve their levels of fatigue and helps reduce muscle pain.

Your symptoms not beeing as severe doesn't neccesarily mean that you do or don't have fibro. A lot of diseases seam to mimick fibro pains, for that very reason it's very good that your dr is looking at all and every option available. I'm sure they will figure it out in the meantime u need to hang in there.
As Vickie pointed out a lot of the people here have a combination of illnesses that makes for a huge variation in symptoms and treatments. For example i also suffer from back issues (degenerative disc disease) wich in turn also causes pain added on top of the fibro. But hey i'm alive and really thats all that matters.

Be sure to read the fibro 101 thread it's an amazing resource for information and it has been a huge help to me too when i just turned up on this forums doorstep.
I too felt really lost in the beginning, especially the months before the dx, but these people here are so very supportive and they help you cary each and every load, no matter how big or small they are always and i mean ALWAYS here to help!

As for meds i'm only on Amitriptyline 25 MG and take paracetamol or iboprufen as required. the Ami.. doesn't work for me, but i know there are others here for whom it has worked so that goes to show that everyonbe is different and so everyone will react differently to different meds.

I hope you get all the answers you so desperatly seek. In the meantime this forum will back you up and let you vent.

Hi, GlassOlive, and welcome!  Taking 800 mg of ibuprofen and also Tramadol will keep the pain lessened.  If you were to stop those meds, you would have far greater pain.  I've been taking ibuprofen for 24 years and did develop a bleeding ulcer recently.  Now I have to stay away from ibuprofen for two months and I sure see all the help it was giving me.  Also, some people have more pain than others.  We don't all have the exact same symptoms, thank goodness!  It's a very long list of symptome!

 

Be sure to check out Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum.  There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.  The links called Symptoms, What Else Could It Be, and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia are good links to start reading.

Glad you are here, this is a good site filled with great people & I get a lot of great tips here. The pain comes & goes & it changes location. Some days I feel almost normal & other days I feel practically disabled.
