prednisone anyone?

I got better when on prednisone and was just wondering if it helped with anyone else?

I am currently off it, and the pain in my muscles and what feels like pain right below my skin is all back again.

I also get constipated again. Maybe i have something else, but i have been tested for just about anything that exists over the past 6yrs.

Prednisone doesn't usually help with fibro symptoms.  I've had to take is several times due to auto immune inner ear disease and Crohn's disease and didn't notice any difference.  Was the Prednisone given to you for fibromyalgia?

 

Do you take any narcotics?  They can cause constipation according to my doctor.

No, it was given for arthritis. My joints are the same on as off, but the pain in my muscles is worse when off.

I tried prednisone to see if I might have arthritis, and I believe that prednisone can act like a stimulant. I did have significant improvement in range, it helped my injured SI joints and I felt alive and energetic. My understanding is that prednisone was supposed to aid in joint pain (which my rheumy believes ISN"T a sign of FMS, but I believe strongly that it CAN BE), but not muscle pain. However, prednisone has very serious and unpleasant long term effects. Have you tried other types of anti-inflammatories?

When joints get inflamed, it can affect the surrounding muscles because you use your muscles in a different way to help protect the injured/sore joint. It can be possible while on prednisone that the inflammation in your joints eased which allowed your muscles to relax. And now you're off the pred, the muscles are reverting back to protection mode. Add in Fibro to the mix and it can make things feel worse. But even if the pred didn't feel like it made a difference, even a small change in lowered inflammation can help the muscles.

I've been on high dose prednisone (40 MG) daily in the past for autoimmune conditions. Prednisone will reduce inflammation, but does nothing for fibro.
I felt starving the entire time I was on it, no matter how much I ate and ended up with a weight gain of nearly 20 lbs along with the moon face. Prednisone is a med that I hope to stay away from. Methotrexate, an immunosupppressant helps with my MCTD.

NSAIDS, such as Mobic (Meloxicam) can help with arthritis inflammmation.

I was on 80 mg a day for my auto immune inner ear disease.  They were trying to stop the progression of the disease.  The first week was good.  Then I went downhill faster than an Olympic skier!  My immune system shut down and I was getting anything and everything that remotely was an illness.  I looked like the Pillsbury Dough Boy, too.  I couldn't wait to get off that stuff!  Overall, it didn't help my fibro pain at all.

They have recently bumped me back up to 10mg because I am in a flare. I've been on predisone since 08/08 started at 40 mg for over 8 months.. every time I try to wean off I go into a terrible flare. I was down to 3 mg for a little over a month. I thought a few days ago that I was starting to come out of it...but boy was I wrong..the steriods don't seem to be helping this time..my lower legs and hips are so weak..I feel ok when I sit, but then when I get up I feel like my legs might buckle under me. I agree with you Robin, that I feel like I can't get enough food...I've been working so hard to loose weight and this happens and I'm awaiting the undeniable moon face.

I know it will pass, always does, but the frequency in which it is returning is getting closer and closer together...

I'm thankful for my wonderful hubby, family and most importantly my faith in my Father God and His son Jesus!!!!! This is what gets me through and helps me to try and remain positive.
