Flexeril

 I have been taking just 10mg's of a generic Flexeril at bedtime and have woken up from 1 to 2 times in the middle of the night with SEVERE dry mouth! My tongue and mouth feel so dry and rough. It's a horrible feeling. Will this pass or should I stop it and notify my Dr. ?  This med does help me sleep better though.  Does anyone else have this side affect?

Less serious Flexeril side effects may include:

• dry mouth or throat;

• blurred vision;

• drowsiness, dizziness, tired feeling;

• loss of appetite, stomach pain, nausea;

• diarrhea, constipation, gas; or

• muscle weakness.

It just says to call your doctor if any of these non life threatening symptoms are bothersome.

I've used it and still do occasionally. Dry mouth and hungover feeling the next morning are the worst symptoms - I just wake up occasionally and take a sip of water.... also causes drier eyes so I add some lubricating eye drops... but it helps. Tizanidine is a little less strong and works almost as well with similar side effects but not as noticeable.

that is the classic tricyclic-anti-depressant side effect. Flexeril or "cylcobenzaprine" is almost identical to the tricyclic effect which includes anticholinergic effects: dry mouth, dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision. i agree a bedtime large dose of Zanaflex "tizanidine" (tablet) is a fast knockout with pain relieving properties that only has dizziness that can be bad because it is basically a anti-hypertensive in the alpha1 adrenergic receptor agonist class similar to clonidine or Catapres, which is also used for pain. 4-12mg right at! bedtime is a good sleep aid.

Thank you for your replies. I have been out of town for a few days and forgot to take the flexeril with me and didn't notice a big difference in my sleep so I'm thinking I may only take it when I REALLY need it. I so hate that awful dry mouth. It wakes me up almost as much as the pain.
