vitamins for brain function? what about exhaustion?

I don't know Sue. After another, what feels like sleepless night, I can't think of what it is that is suppose to help with memory and don't have the energy to look it up.

 

I'm sure someone better off than we are this morning will be able to help.

Just a note - I had some ideas to try. I work on a computer all day and broke my real glasses a couple of months back and have been using cheaters from the drug store. Ordered new glasses frames and will get a glare filter for the monitor. I also discovered that flourescent lighting over the screen makes your eyes work harder. So I turned off the fluorescent light.

Cannot work with music with words - so I listened to an African language online radio station. The music is happy and jumpy, but the words do not distract me because I cannot understand them!!! I also took several breaks and got up to walk around and go outside.

Just turning off the flourescent light and taking breaks made a big difference, as did the jumpy music.

Hopefully these discoveries will help someone else.

Donna, I'm guessing your doc has checked you for cataracts? That would be the obvious problem for blurry vision. I couldn't drive at night because of all the glare I was getting from the cataracts and mine weren't considered "ripe", but my doc took them anyway and I had lenses implanted, ones that also correct astigmatism and for the first time in my life, I do not need glasses or contact lenses. I have been wearing glasses since I was five and I am 58! This is almost miraculously to me. I do, however, still wear readers at the computer.
CoQ10 is wonderful for energy. Calcium is suppose to help with sleep so take that in the evening. Also if you take thyroid medication, make sure you take the calicum at least six hours after the thyroid pill or it will block the absorption of the thyroid pill (this is per three different endocrinologists that I have seen).
I take a vitamin B complex formulated by the doc that heads up the fibro and fatigue centers of america. I buy it online and it's NOT expensive. Bs are suppose to help with energy. Let's see what else, you have no idea how many supplements I take. Fish oil...a lot of people only take (1`) 1 mg capsule a day, I take THREE, well 1, 3 x a day. Cardiologist recommends that much, for your heart, but it's also great for brain function and energy.
I buy all my supplements at www.iherb.com. They have great discounts and at a certain price point, shipping is free. I just buy about every 3 months for us and the dogs, so I have enough to not pay shipping. I also now get a 17% discount on the orders because I'm now a "VIP" customer, just from buying there for a while. They have a great refund policy. I once didn't receive one supplement and called them and they immediately shipped it out and received the next day. Then, guess what? My husband found it...something for his prostate, saw palmetto, and he thought we didn't get it. Talk about fibro fog...what's his excuse???

Thanks Miriam and Nana and Karen - I will try those websites. I already take fish oil in the morning, so I will take a bottle to work and take some at lunch, too.

I read somewhere that exhaustion could be exacerbated by dehydration. And I have been drinking coffee and tea - started back on water. I think it is supposed to help oxygenate the brain, too.

Donna, it is an anti-glare filter. You slide it over the monitor and it cuts back on the glare. The stuff on the computer is pixels, which are hard for your eye to focus on. Also, do not have a window behind the monitor. A window should be at a right angle to the monitor. Keep fluorescent lights away. If you need a desk lamp, use a white light, instead of a yellow one. Just turning off the fluorescent light right above my monitor helped a great deal!

My daughter's eye doc told us something that I never forgot. If you hold up a frog and poke it in the leg with a pin, it will jump. But if you keep doing it, it will eventually stop jumping. Your eyes (maybe body and brain) are the same. You need a break for the circuits to work properly (or something like that). Maybe somebody smarter about this can explain it better!! :)
