Hi, Jo, and welcome! I'm so glad you found us and joined the family. As you already have found out, we have wonderful members who love to help one another and, as a bonus, really do care about each other, too. I think you will like it here.
Fibro is a difficult illness but as you get in control of your pain you will be able to have a full and enjoyable life in spite of it. I've had this for decades but have still had a good life and have done many things. I don't limit myself by thinking that I can't do something. I always try and usually find out that I CAN do it! Then I have bragging rights!
I'm a walker, too. I don't want to head out the door but feel much better when I get back home. I have less pain and more energy after I walk. I do gentle stretching exercises, too. These help keep me flexible. Gentle massages help me a lot, too. She works out those muscle knots for me.
Fibro waxes and wanes so you will have lousy times and better times. You will learn how much you can do at a time, too. I pace myself. You need to do that or else you can bring on a flare. Everything does get done but in a different time frame.
I use malic acid/magnesium supplements and vitamin D3 to help with pain and fatigue. These have helped me a lot and have helped others on this forum, too. So you might want to talk to your doctor about these.
I have found that keeping a positive outlook helps nearly as much as the medications! If I focus on how I feel, I am miserable and make everyone around me miserable. But, if I count my blessings and look forward to things, I'm far happier and I don't feel so bad either. Also, focusing on something else helps the pain fade somewhat in the background. I love to work on genealogy and, when I'm doing this, I'm so absorbed in it that I forget I have chronic pain! Love it!
Be sure to read Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum. There are links to good information about fibro and you will learn a lot there. Good starting links are called Symptoms and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia. You might see yourself there. There are links about the malic acid/magnesium supplements and the vitamin D3 supplements and how they work in your body, too. The gentle stretching exercises are there, also. And, there is a wonderful article about maintaining a positive attitude in Fibro 101. I have read this many times....especially if I'm having a down day. As Karen said, there's a whole bunch of things in this thread.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.
