Hi, Chelle, and welcome! I'm so glad you found us and joined the family. You have gotten wonderful responses from everyone so I really don't have much to add. THAT is a rarity!
I use malic acid/magnesium supplements, vitamin D3 supplements, and natural product called Curamin, and extra strength Tylenol to help with pain and fatigue. I also take 2.5 mg of Vicodin to help take the edge off the pain, too, when it's really bad. Debbie directed you to Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum..and you should read that because there is a ton of info about fibro in there. There are links about the malic acid and vitamin D and how they work in the body, too.
You do need to keep moving with fibro. If you sit or lay too much, you will be stiff as a board and have more pain. I do gentle stretching exercises (on Fibro 101), I walk daily as my gentle exercise (swimming and yoga are other good exercises for fibro), and I pace myself. All of this helps me be in control of the pain.
The pain specialist will be able to help you. Many doctors are hesitant to prescribe heavier medications. You just might find, if you try malic acid/magnesium and vitamin D3, that you don't need a pain doctor. Quite a few members have gotten good results with these supplements. Your doctor can check your vitamin D levels with blood work. I was very low and I live in sunny Florida!
I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.
