My friend,
I was an RN on the floor of the hospital, working in ICU, lifting and running all shift long. I subseqently hurt my back and my fibromyalgia kicked in big time. I was diagnosed with fibro at age 28, I had back surgery at age 33 and was told I could no longer work in the hospital.
Now I loved working in the hospital and was so sad to not be able to do it any more. So, I became creative and went to work as a field nurse in home health. I loved it! I didn't think I would, but I did. Years later, I went into supervision. I am sixty years old now and have retired ten years ago from an administrator's position. Did I have a tough time even in home health? Not so much at first, but as the years wore on, the fibro incapacitated me more and more. I tried as you do, to not show it to my coworkers how badly I was actually feeling.
Now you are a speech pathologist who is having trouble working full time. Why not sign up with a couple of home health agencies in your area and work per diem? It's generally not with children if it is a Medicare agency, but a private agency will deal with children.
I wish you luck and I also hope you come back and let us know how you are doing. We sure want to know.
God bless.
