Hi everyone! I have an apeal coming up on March 19th in front of a judge to hear my case for SSI. I have fibro, anxiety and hearing loss....has anyone gotten disability because of their fibro?

My husband was granted his SSDI at the hearing. (He did not take his dose of meds before the case.) I wanted the judge to see how bad he really was. He was so deep in a fibro fog that he deferred to me for answer on dates and why he needed his medications that the judge told him he could not ask me for information since I was only an onlooker in the case.

He was honest in his answers even though he rambled and could not always find the word he was looking for. The judge did not try to rush him and he asked very deep questions about his reactions and then he deferred to the 'specialist' (a job placement officer and I think it was a social worker that they had to say there was nothing that he could do for work outside of our home.)

Do you have a lawyer that will be with you? Our lawyer's firm had sent a note to the judge that they were not ready for our case when I had sent a letter to the judge requesting a hardship in waiting so long.........we were being served foreclosure papers. The judge apologized to us for our law firm's actions. We had never met our lawyer until right before we walked into court.........by that time, I was so exhausted from fighting that I did not pursue fighting the law firm. We had a verdict and it was over in my mind. ;)

Praying you get justice and can have this burden removed from your shoulders soon!

I received disability. I was turned down the first time, then hired an attorney and was granted disability the second try. I'm not sure if it was based on FM or not. I also have depression, anxiety and severe lower back issues, all of which were stated in my papers.

Good luck on your hearing. I truly hope that you get it. I tried years ago and didn't get it, but then I worked some after that. My husband wants me to try again. I am thinkiing about it. It t haas been many years since the first time.

Getting By- I attempted to try to get disability the first time, but I didn't really know what I was doing. I went back to work for 2 years and it was hell. I applied again on my own and got it. Dont give up and dont wait like I did, almost on my death bed for I had to stop. It has been so worth it for me. My health has improved from not working. I still have some rough days that I realize I know I cant hold a job down again. When I am having a bad day, I dont have to stress out anymore. I just know it will pass and I just love the fact that I can just go back to bed or be a bum.

I got temporary help because of my fybro and a few other problems. If anyone is trying for aide the best advice I read somewhere was to becareful about stating it gets worse sometimes and better sometimes. In the narrow minded view of many states if the problem isn't all the time they sometimes will dismiss your application for help.

I am in Canada left my job of 15 years in December 2007 had to go on sick leave unemployement insurance. and then had to file in February of 2008 with my private insurance from work. and got it in April 24 of 2008


after two years on private. they make you file with provincial. I was accepted right away. so they divide it up with private and provincial.


I didn't have a lawyer... my husband who passed away in April 3 of 2008 4 months after I left my job.   but he put the whole file together for me. they sent me to their doctor 2 weeks after he passed away.... and I got it a week later...

I had the help of my bosses as well.who wrote letters on my behalf.... and my three doctors also filled out the forms and wrote letters. I was accepted on permanent disability. I am 58 years old. I was 54 then.

I had generalized anxiety disorder, degenerative disc disease in neck and lower back, chronic vertigo, and fibro on the forms plus an extra heartbeat that would make me very tired. and chronic fatique..

I was very lucky to get it so fast.... unfortunately I think one of the reasons was because my husband passed away at the age 61 suddenly.. and I did not have fibro as the first illness on the forms my doctors filled out..

when I first filed my husband said if I am denied we would take a lawyer..
but never needed one...

I wish you good luck. getting letters from your bosses is a good idea too.

I had full support of my boss.

My best friend did. She was turned down the first time, but won the next. Fibro is becoming more heard of these days.

I was injured on the job and my employer fought me for workers comp. during that time I also applied for SSD and was denied. 90% of those who apply for SSD the first time are shot down.

I hired a lawyer to help me with SSD. Meanwhile, besides my back injuries and permanent nerve damage and CP I was recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I can barely walk with a cane and have a drug implant to help control my CP, but the pain is still felt each day. I went food shopping with the wife today for about 30 minutes in one store and my back and legs were screaming with pain. The only thing I found that helps is laying in bed with my legs elevated on a wedge pillow. I also have insomnia, so I don't have a rested mind and that plus my list of medications make concentrating and short term memory impossible.

Good luck to both of us in getting SSD! Right now. Have no income...

I was denied twice, hired an attorney and 2 years after I applied, I was approved at the hearing with the judge..but it was for chronic pain, arthritis, depression. Now the pain and depression were part of my fibro. Most of us have a cornucopiaof health problems and attorney said I wouldn't get it for one thing but the totality of all my problems.

I made sure the Court got every medical record for the past 5 years. The judge said I was on significant amount of drugs and my age also played into it. Since I was in my 50s, that I did not have much tiome left before retiring. So it will be the sum total of all your health factors, make sure the court has ALL your records.

Hi, Shelly, and welcome!  I'm glad you found us and joined in.  I got SS disability with fibro, hearing loss, Crohn's disease, and diabetes and I got it the first time I tried.  The hearing loss and fibro probably will do the trick for you.  Many people work with anxiety.  I can't hear on a telephone so that eliminates a lot of jobs.  I'll be praying that you are successful. 

 

Be sure to check out Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum.  There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.  I've had fibro for decades and am still learning new things to help myself so be sure to check this thread out!
