Best place to live?? Cold is really bad for me...

Hi, Adrienne, and welcome!  I live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida and absolutely love it.  It's warm, tons of sunlight, and we have water all around us.  The humidity can bother me but that is only around for about three months.  I still enjoy myself in the humid months because I have a pool and, as soon as I get in the pool, the humidity doesn't bother me at all.  I stay cool but the sun feels so wonderful to me.  January and February can get cool with highs in the 50's and 60's and we have dipped down to the upper 20's at night.  But, when that tropical sun comes out, it warms up in a hurry.

 

The next seven days here will be in the upper 70's and the lows in the low 60's.  Sunny with some clouds.  Now, that's what I call perfect weather!  I know....I'm SOOOO bad.

 

You might want to scoot over to our wonderful Lyme forum on HealingWell.  Why?  I am quite sure there is a Lyme literate doctor close to Tampa Bay, if my memory serves me correctly.  They can tell you for sure in that forum.  Here is the link to it.

I understand what you are saying about warmth, heat and sun...counting the days untill we can retire to Florida...only 6 years to go, lol.

Fibromites benefit from heat...so until you move, soak in a hot bath, close your eyes and imagine you are in a beautiful exotic location, it like a mini vacation :)

Presently living in Arkansas, it is alot warmer than my home state of WI. The summers can be very sunny and in the 100's, and the winters aren't horribly cold, but they can be damp and that isn't great for fibromites either.

So glad that you joined us and hope you find the perfect location for you and your daughter :)

I suggest staying far away from Western NC. I live there now, and the temps are crazy--high in the summer, ridiculously low in the winter. I hate the fluctuations, but this is home to me :) All the family I have left is here, as is my boyfriend, and I dont think I could bring myself to leave.

I'm sorry to hear others have a high cold tolerance too. I live in Va. and sometimes it gets pretty cold and lots of snow, too. I always dread winter I'm practically homebound til spring and don't seem to feel halfway like a normal person late spring, early summer and as I get older seems it's less helpful even for what few months of warm weather I have here in Va.
I'm hoping I can relocate south sometime this year, well that's my dream; I became divorced last August; and it's always been a dream of mine to move to a warmer climate. Usually every late fall we would go to the beach in S.C.; and it would still be nice and warm, even the ocean, and I would feel so much better; So I hope that we all can relocate for our health's sake. Does anyone know anything about the Gulf of Mexico coasts of Fl., Al., and etc. I've been checking them out on the internet, wish everyone good luck and hope all our dreams come true.

I live in Bay St. Louis Mississippi between New Orleans and Mobile Alabama. The real estate is extrememly cheap as is cost of living. We have 50-60 miles of gorgeous white sand beaches, cheap seafood, lovely bayous and wildlife. Our 6 month summer with brutal humidity really makes me worse, so I hibernate. Our spring fall and winter are usually nice, averaging in 70s, but this is also Hurrican Central, so you need to be able to pick up and evacuate if you are near water...that gets really exhausting, after Katrina, as we age.

It is home, but we plan on moving to northern MS, AL or TN when dtr goes to college...we live on a bayou, tired of evacuating. Course, up there gets tornados sooo-LOL!!

Hope you find your pefect spot. Someof us glory in the heat, some don't.

thank you all for your repliesand helpful information. It's @ 15 degrees and the windchill is 0, with @4-6 inches of snow. so my  pain level is high and  not able to do much but lay around. Not a very good quality of life, but sorry for complaining as I know there are others with worse health problems. Would love to move to Tampa, but I doubt I could afford it,  I have been looking on the internet for areas  n Gulf of Mexico coast of Alabama and upper Pensecola Fl. area. But for now I'm trying too stay warm, haha; hopefully something will work out for me before next winter. Take care all. Thank you for all your replies an helpful info.

I moved from a cold state to Southeast Florida. I thought it would solve my fibro issues, but it hasn't. The humidity and rainy weather (ESPECIALLY the rainy weather) are terrible as well. Keeping in mind we pretty much have the rainy season last us about 6mths. (also known as our hurricane season).

I too am interested in hearing what areas may be most suitable.. I don't know but now I'm thinking should I try the Southwest?

I live in Pa,, and i cannot take the cold anymmore, even taking the dogs out leaves me crying, not sure if its from teh small fiber neuropathy or some of it is fibro,, I know i fall a lot getting out of bed, and once in bed I dont want to getup,, I end up on the floor

I'm in Maine and don't want to leave my support and loved ones but wonder about the crazy fluctuation in weather here! Summer is great winter is harsh and there is not enough sun for me to feel warm except in July! Hawaii sounds perfect!!!!

Yep, I don't recommend where I live either (northern Iowa). My wife would love to move somewhere warmer but we both know that with our family in this immediate area that's not going to be possible. It's been a great winter, comparatively, considering it's only been below 0 once this winter that I remember. We had our house insulated a month ago so it's finally warm enough inside to be fibro-friendly. My aunt in Raleigh, North Carolina would love for us to move out there and they have great weather there. I would imagine somewhere in the south next to the ocean would be the optimal place for us fibromites to live. Sherrine, I'm soooo jealous of your climate.

Living where I do here in Australia we are just going into autum [fall] and the nights are startingto cool off yes we will only get frosts here in winter but it still kills me with the cold from that.

I think each of us would find different weather was great for us like everything with fibro no one suffers the same.

With the cooler nights my DD with fibro is suffering with a really bad flare while mine is about the same as usual.
