Just Diagnosed With Fibromyalgia.

Hello All,

I was diagnosed yesterday. I have been trying to educate myself about this. This is the second illness I've been diagnosed with. In 2005 I was diagnosed with Cushing's Disease. I had a pituitary Surgery and a Bilateral Adrenalectomy in 2005. I take Prednisone on a daily basis and will have to for life. I also have back problems and had 7 knee surgeries combined on both knees. So I am dealing with Pain from my back and legs and also Fibromyalgia. Is there any advice on how to deal with pain/symptoms from Fibromyalgia?

Hi Jen,

Welcome. You have come to the right place! Look at Fibro 101, the 2nd thread on the forum. You'll find so much info on fibro you won't believe it! In addition, this is a very active forum, where we really care about eachother and want to help eachother. I keep learning all the time, and I've been diagnosed since about 1993, although I'm sure I had it before that.

I hope you stay around so we can get to know you. If you have specific questions, ask away. That's what we're here for.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I have just started reading the The Fibro 101 thread, there is alot of helpful information there. I am sure I read more, I will have more questions. Thanks again.

I was wondering if anyone can help me with a question? What is the best medication to help with the pain from fibromyalgia? I also have alot of back and knee problems. I have been put on different meds and my Dr.'s and I are trying to find one that will work. I am also seeing a Pain Management Dr. in a few weeks for the first time. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Jen, I go to pain managment for many years. I have tried all the hard narcotics and became very dependent on them. I got tired of feeling controlled by them. It seem the more I took the more pain I got in. I found out that I have a hereditary dependence in my family. I finally beggged to get off them, but my Dr's were worried about how to control my pain. I finally started a medication callled subutex. It's not for everyone. I love it and it works for me very well.. I just need 1 1/2 tab a day. If I could take hard narcotics I probably would take them here and there. But when you have dependency issues like me it doesn't work so well. So I am glad they developed this drug for people like me. My Dr's says more people are changing over to it because of less dependent issues. I was offered the new fibro non narcotics meds, but I turned them down. I heard too many stories from them. Just be careful and be aware that most narcotics can become habit forming.
