Lupron treatments linked to Fibromyalgia?

Has anyone heard of the side affects (such as fibromyalgia symptoms) being linked to Lupron treatments?  Like a delayed reaction to Lupron? 

My daughter's story

 

Lindsey, now 28 was given Lupron injections daily for 6 years ( ages 4-10yrs) to delay her early signs of puberty (Idiopathic True Sexual Precocity).  When she was 15 she was diagnosed with ALL  (Leukemia) and went through 28 months of Chemo treatment.  After Chemo she was severally fatigued and seemed to have diminished cognitive abilities. She was put on Aderall when she was 18 and has since relied on that to help give her enough energy to get a job and lead a life.  Oct-Nov 2011 she went through 4 surgeries for stones in her salivary glands. In Dec 2011 she began to feel fatigue which could not be relieved by the Aderall.  In February 2012 (and since) she has been having severe joint pain, dizziness, hot flashes, foggy mind, more problems with cognitive skills etc.

 

We are searching for a diagnosis-is it Fibro? is there a link to her prevous treaments with Lupron or ALL?

Hi, beekro, and welcome!  I'm so glad you found us and joined in.  Well, your daughter has symptoms of fibromyalgia but she needs to be checked out to be sure.  Doctors do not know what causes fibro but we have asked on this forum what the members thought brought on fibro.  We have had a lot of suggestions and many times it's illnesses.  It seems that hard stresses to the body can bring it on.  Some people developed this illness after an automobile accident, an illness, stresses like deaths in the family or divorce, etc.  But we are only guessing here.

 

I would suggest that you take your daughter to a rheumatologist who treats fibromyalgia patients.  Be sure to ask before making the appointment because there are still doctors out there in the Dark Ages when it comes to fibro.  The doctor will run her through a myriad of tests to rule out other illnesses that have many of the same symptoms of fibro and then a correct diagnosis should be given. 

 

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the second thread on the forum.  There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.  Good links for you to check out are called Symptoms, What Else Could It Be, and A Thorough Explanation of Fibromyalgia.  You might be able to tell more from reading these links.  All the info is good though.

I remember reading about a link between Lupron and fibro or fibro-type chronic pain but I can't remember where right now.

A few women in my fibro support group believed chemo triggered their fibro.

Thanks for the comment. I've seen the Lupron studies about Fibro-like symptoms and Lupron as it relates to endometreosis and prostate cancer but nothing for the different Lupron injections used during early childhood for precocious puberty.
