Back on Lexapro and Abilify, and yes, it helps

Some of you may remember my story. I had a colonoscopy and had some pre-cancerous polyps removed and after some research, discovered that Lexapro, Abilify and Wellbutrin all three could possibly cause colitis, so I paniced and quit it all cold turkey. My fibromyalgia immediately flared up and presisted for the past 6 months while I have been off the meds.

To make a long story short, my depression was too much for me to handle without the medications, so I am back on Lexapro and Abilify now. I have noticed quiet a bit of change with my overall pain going from what I would say was about a 7 or 8 down to a 2.

Hi Masschaos,

I take abilify too and I really like it. I take pristiq though instead of what you take. I am glad that you are feeling better. It really makes a difference with medications that work for us. I am glad that you have no side effects either.

I am glad you were able to get back on your meds. I would hate to see if I was off my antidepressent. It probably wouldn't be pretty. Lol I take an old one, which a lot of Dr's don't like to use because it causes weight gain. It's even underlined when you look it up. It causes you to have real bad hungar pains. I am getting better to try to ignore them. I call it as false appetite. I feel like I want 1000 calories before bedtime. Not good. I have problems with most of the antidepressents. I learned the Hard way.

I feel so much better. I am doing my best to not gain any weight back. I lost 30 pounds while I was off the meds. When I quit the meds, eating made me nausious and the food tasted bland. Now, of course, I have my appetite back.

I hope you are both doing well. I am alot better depression wise too.

Hi Masschaos,

I am glad you are feeling better. It is so hard sometimes. And the fibromyalgia does effect us in the way of depression. But you are feeling better and that is wonderful. Keep up the good work. Try walking some everyday. It really helps with energy and feeling better.

Advice on handling the pain...

I was on Abilify for a few months and really liked it. I felt better physically and mentally. Actually had a few days where I felt just this overwhelming happiness. It was awesome. I'm on Lexapro also (in addition to many others) and noticed I was slowly gaining weight and had no sex drive. So I went down on the lexapro and quit the Abilify completely.
OMG I felt awful, just a mess. I did this for a few weeks, basically living on my couch, dishes piling up, trash overflowing, not wanting to even take a shower I felt so horrible.
4 days ago I started the abilify again and I feel great. It's crazy how much of a difference this stuff makes!!!
I'm walking again, working on my many projects, cleaning stuff, it's insane.

I just want to say to all you suffering out there, and I do mean suffering, please look into taking Abilify. This med has changed my life for the better. I don't have that nagging flu like feeling at all. This is better at handling my pain than the Lortab I've taken for 6 years.
