I start PT today for a possible herniated disk around the sciatic nerve. (No definite diagnosis because the insurance company decided I did not need an MRI) Can anyone give me some advice about going into PT for a non fibro problem. Right now my biggest fear is whatever they do will send me into a flare. Thank you

It will likely bother you at first and you will be sore, the best thing is to keep track of how you feel after and tell your PT therapist the next time so they know if they have to scale back what you are doing. Also take breaks inbetween excersizes so you don't overdue it. Keep an eye on your trainer too make sure they are monitoring how you do, if they are not you could be doing excersizes wrong and it's agood sign you'll need to switch trainers. Well after the first session, I am not very happy. The therapist did not take into account my fibro and I really over did it. My body is throbbing right now. I need to make sure i convey better than I cannot handle what a normal 30 year old can handle.

Oh, do I hear you, Jill! That was always my experience with physical therapy too, until this time....after I DID have surgery for the very same thing you fear you have. Sciatic pain is horrible!

Is your pain right now an increase in your regular fibro pain or sciatic pain?

Don't you just LOVE insurance companies? mad

I woke up this morning in horrible fibro pain. Im so angry at myself for not being more assertive with the therapist.

Jmw- if you at least try going to pt and complain how much it hurts they will document it . After so long if you have poor results or can't go any longer then usually your dr. Will let your insurance company know that you need a scan done. This is the game you have to play with the insurance.
