Hey everyone,
I am pretty new on here but have posted a few times. I was diagnosed with fibro about 2 years ago and ever since it has been a battle of trying all treatments natural and pharmaceutical. So far nothing had helped, I have tried all the meds with no real improvement. Today I had my first appointment at the Rothberg pain clinic in Toronto. They only do injections. I have to go once a week for 8 weeks and recieve 6 needles into my spinal cord of lidacain (sp?) the same thing as dentists use to freeze your mouth. I had the injections 8 hours ago, and after it was pretty painful where I had the needlles as well as when they were doing them. After I got them I had a little cry fest as it was pretty eye opening how sick I am being in a pain clinic full of people who are ill. But after a long car ride home I have to say I am very hopeful as for the first time in a year, I have absolutly NO pain in my legs. My legs are the worst part for me. Being 25 I cant give in and let this take my life over. I have not been able to work , or even make plans I can stick to! Anyway s I wanted to let everyone know it is definitly worth a shot , as the injections acts as a blocker to block the pain receptors. So i will keep updating but honestly its science and makes sense. However it may not be a long term solution...

What types of tests have you gone through for your diagnosis?  The reason I'm asking is I developed unbearable pain in my legs....like raw nerve pain....and barely could walk this winter.  I went to see a rheumatologist and he took 8 viles of blood for various tests, about 25 x-rays of my entire spine and hips, and two MRI's of my lower back and hips.  Well, it turns out that severe pain was not from fibromyalgia.  It was from a rheumatoid arthritis illness that affects the entire spine and the sacroiliac joints in the legs and I'm back on ibuprofen, Tylenol, and a muscle relaxant.  The pain has pretty much gone away and I'm walking so much better again.

 

Not everything is caused by fibro.  I'm glad they found out what really was causing the problem.  I was thinking about the shots you have gotten but knew those were a temporary thing.  Narcotics didn't even help with this pain.  But simple ibuprofen did.

 

I am glad you are getting relief but I hope they find out what is causing this excessive pain for you.

I'm glad you are able to walk better that's great! I have had full body MRI brain MRI full body bone scan , full body x ray, and then all the blood tests possible.. For ra lupus vitamin deficientcy thyroid hormones the list goes on. I went to 2 rheumatologists that diagnosed me as fibro. I have all the tender points and symptoms... Yah the dr told me for some people the shots are temporary but for others it can be permanent... I'm just thinking if it is temporary it will give me a summer to enjoy and maybe get back into shape for my health... Can only prey

Oh I sure hope it will continue to give you relief! Please keep us posted. I know it was scary to have those injections

Yes, it is. I only had 2 of them, once, and they were extremely painful, and didn't do much for me. But I needed surgery.

I'd like to know WHY they are so expensive!

Anyway, Momma, I hope they continue to work for you. You really are young to be saddled with so much pain.
