Is it Just a Bruise?

Hope your doc solves this mystery for you...you mention swelling, fibro does not cause swelling or any tissue damage.

I find bruises on my body that I don't remember any type of trama, but I know I'm forever walking into door frames or banging myself, I'm a clutz :)

Fibro doesn't cause you to bruise. I would think it was a spider or some other insect bite. Any spider bite can get quite bad. does it hurt?

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I do bruise easily, and am quite the clutz. I am forever bumping myself on things, or tripping. Sometimes, if I lean against something hard for a period of time, I will get a bruise. However, given the size of this bruise, and the knot in it, and the pain involved, I think I would have remembered an injury. Also, with it being on my upper arm-this is not usually an area that I bump. I am more prone to hitting my lower arms and legs and hands on things. Kaely, I am also rather light skinned, so this showed up like a beacon. Everyone has been asking what happened, as this is the first thing they see when they look at me. It is kind of embarrassing to admit that I don't know. With it being summertime, it is too hot to wear the long sleeves that it would take to cover it up. Even worse, I always bruise from blood-draws. I had the lab tech at the hospital take the blood from my left arm-now I have a bruise there also. I match!

My doctor did not think that this was a spider or insect bite due to the fact that there was no redness or heat. There was also no little red dot in the center. She feels that this was a broken vessel. She says that she has seen this happen before. Sometimes it takes only minor exertion. She said that she had one patient who was 30 years old who had been walking and squatted to pick something up, and broke a vessel. The bruise covered his entire inner thigh. She said people who are in my line of work are prime targets-I probably lifted one of the kids, or moved just right when I was outside. I had been showing the kids how to make bubbles by waving the wand through the air-perhaps this was just enough. I had also carried a pan of bubbles and some sidewalk paint in a large muffin tin outside before bringing the kids out. Maybe I rested one of these against my upper arm when I was opening the door? Stranger things have happened with me. She did a pretty thorough physical, and pronounced me healthy, which makes me feel relieved. She checked my ability to move my arms in several different ways, and this was okay. She said that given the fact that the clotting test results were good, and since the bruise seems to be healing quickly, there is no need for additional bloodwork. However, she has left a standing order with their lab that for a CBC. If I get anything else similar to this, I need to call them, and they will work me in on the same day. In particular, they will be looking at platelets. What was funny, she told me to tell them, "Darn, I just got another one!" I told her that if I get another like this one, my language would probably be a little more colorful than that !
