Summertime heat

I live in Southern Mississippi and our brutal summers last 5 months. The heat for me is the worst!! I can bundle up for cold but cannot get away from heat. I feel physically ill, nauseous, headaches, profuse sweating etc. We Southerners hibernate in the summer here-lol. And I think humidity hurts fmers too, just like the damp cold is hard on us.

Spring and fall I try to enjoy the outdoors.

This heat wave is very dangerous for lots of people and of course, our pets. Please take care, K and hunker down for a few days

It's been in the 100s 4 out of 5 days here, too. And we don't have air conditioning! :(

I'm in Colorado, so at least it's dry heat (thank goodness) but even so, it's pretty miserable. My skin all over, and especially my feet, always seem to be throbbing when it's this hot. Plus, with all the fires, the air quality is terrible. Half the time the smoky smell is enough to make me gag.

I do really feel for those of you who are having to deal with humidity on top of it all. How well I remember my first pregnancy, in Wisconsin, living in a 2nd story flat without air conditioning. Youza!

I agree Sherrine.

After Katrina it was near 100 and 99% humidity with no electric or water for a looong time. I took my melted ice and threw it in the tub, only a few inches (water was precious) and when I thought I was going to literally have a meltdown-lol-I'd crawl in that tub for 15 minutes. It will really help and then sit (naked if possible) in front of a box fan. Keep a cold washcloth on back of neck too.

Just some ideas from the jungle down here, lol. Stay cool K, and I ampraying for all those that had to evacuate...it is hard to leave home and know you will probrably never see it again.

I am the same way. Today was in the upper 90s, and my house was the same (even though I have an a/c unit in my living room). I get stiff and sore hands and ankles, I am nauseous, have migraines, and extreme fatigue. Not to mention that I am grumpy. It is no fun.

Y'know, Katrina really taught me not to take anything for granted and we found ways to cope with the uncopable. Humans adapt-pretty amazing. I had just been diagnosed w/ fibro-can you imagine??? LOL-so my life since then has been a cakewalk compared to those first 8 months. When the temporary walmart ina tent started selling shoes, everyone celebrated...we wouldn't have to drive 100 miles for shoes anymore-hahaha.

She was the worst experience of my life, but she made my hubby, daughter and I close in a way that many could not imagine. It made us strong.

I know you live in Florida Sherrine so pack your hurricane box!! We have two big bins full of hurricane supplies. I hope y'all dodge the bullet this year. Our new house can withstand up to Cat 3 and tropical storms are just a nuisance so we'll pray for a mild year-for all!!

I cannot stand the heat and humidity. 77-80 degrees year-round would be heaven for me. I never could stand heat, and it's gotten even worse since my fibro flared up and I had my hysterectomy. I was told once that once you've been severely dehydrated or had heat stroke you're much more likely that it'll happen again. I've had both, so heat really does a number on my body, especially if it's very humid. I can't take hot showers, and in the summer they're almost cold to counteract the heat. We've had very unpredictable weather the last week, four days of 90+ weather, 80 one day, 94 the next, then 78, but all with high humidity. I get all of the symptoms mentioned above plus I get really really cranky. We do have central air but it doesn't do very well with the upstairs where our bedroom is. I've told my wife that the most important thing is to keep the humidity out, which it does do very well.

I was able to get out of the city this week. It was so beautiful drive with the tall snowy mountains going around the inlet. As I looked ahead there was a large grizzly on the mountains. So many visitors trying to capture that perfect picture. I bet the visitors were enjoying the cool temps of 50's. When I complain of the weather I just look up and see those becautiful majestic mountains of Alaska and remind myself I don't have to pay for high air condition bills. It's so funny because some of my friends are going to the lower 48 for the heat.
