Short of breath when I first lay down

Is anyone else experiencing shortness of breath upon laying down?  I don't have it every day, but have had it for at least a year (and have had fibro more than 2yrs).  It goes away after about 10 minutes, or so.  I am not obese and in my 30s w/no prior history of asthma or heart problems.  I don't know if I'm subconciously holding my breath and laying down or what is going on - anyone else experiencing something like this?

I've had shortness of breath all of my life and inhalers never helped me. What I've learned I have to do is try to take deep breaths and it's supposedly going to kick in that I do it automatically. Hasn't worked yet.

I also wanted to say that a doctor told me to go off of dairy products years ago and sure enough that helped some. Dairy products produce extra phelgm that's why a conventional doctor will tell you to not do diary when you have cold symptoms. I do almond milk on my cereal in the morning and veggie cheese if I want something like a grilled cheese. If you go this route make sure if you're not getting as much calcium that you do a calcium supplement.

I think pain causes us to hold our breath sometimes.  I can have shortness of breath off and on but my doctor knows about this, too. 

 

Please discuss this with your doctor.  He/she might want to run some tests to make sure there isn't anything else going on.  I find it strange that this only happens when you lay down.  It's too easy to blame everything on fibro so do get checked out and let us know what you find out.  We really do care about you.

I know some days with my fibro flair ups, it hurts to walk and by the time I lay in bed I am a little out of breath and it only lasts a short time. But it isn't real severe.... Its kinda like whewww I am relieved out of breath...

Thanks, Sherrine, I'll tell them, but they have all been somewhat useless. We'll see. I looked it up a bit and it can be a cardio problem and occasionally (about 10 times a year or less), my heart will skip a beat or flutter, but I had echo's done during my life that never showed anything, so I don't think it's a congenital defect. Who knows. I'm sure they'll tell me to wear a Holter monitor or whatever and nothing will happen and they'll declare me completely healthy and I'll have it the next day. :)

Heart palpatations are a symptom of fibro but when I developed them I headed for the doctor.  He did an EKG, echocardiogram, and ultrasound of my heart and carotid arteries, and had me wear the monitor for 24 hours.  My heart was fine and I now was relieved.  I wasn't going to take chances.  My husband saw his doctor regularly but still died from a sudden heart attack.  We just can't blame fibro for everything.

 

Shortness of breath can also be a symptom of anemia and of diabetes!  If your doctor ignores your symptoms, you need to find another doctor.  They are not doing the job that YOU hired them to do.  You are paying them for their services.  If you got no food in a restaurant, you'd get up and leave, wouldn't you?  There are good doctors and bad doctors and you want the good ones.  After all, they get paid plenty to help you.
