smhair  My youngest girl called me last night she lives in Texas and is 26. My husband and I are finally getting to go on a vacation this year after his prostate surgery, leave next Friday. She tells me she is flying in the Thursday night before  and I can pick her up at airport and she will stay at my house until Mon. when she goes back home! She knows we r gone but she wants to see her friends and party down! She would not even consider postponing her trip a week so we could see her, she said she would be back Thanksgiving. This upset me so much we had words and I hung up on her and have not talked since. I had dizzy spells come on and a big flare starting. She has not seen her Dad since his surgery, talked to her sister, and now this. She had just borrowed money from us (allot) and now flying up when we r gone spending money to party! Is it just me overreacting? My fibro is on over-drive now! Thanks for letting me rant!

I would be livid and really hurt, too! Not knowing the dynamics of your relationship makes it hard, but what your daughter is asking of you does sound very unreasonable. Is there some reason she can't come at a later date, when you'll be home?

In answer to your question - no, I don't think you're overreacting at all!

I hope you can relax soon and feel better....but I hear you. In my family it's my son, boy, he can push my buttons like no one else - mainly because he chooses to, whereas my daughters almost never do. Our kids have the power to hurt us like no other!

Ksblues- I think I would have a serious talk with my kid about respect. Tell her your feelings. I wouldn't mention anything about the money, but I sure wouldn't be given anymore. Tell her how your feelings are hurt. Sometimes it works!

I feel your pain but if she is going to treat her parents like that, perhaps she needs a wake up call with you saying no to picking her up from the airport and and staying at your house. Sometimes I think we are our own worst enemies, I know I am guilty of being a "pleaser". I hope you can work things out so your flare settles down and you can enjoy your break.

I don't have kids, so I can't really comment. But, if you are uncomfortable with her staying in your home when you are not there, that makes for an easy conversation.

Just say NO.

I would also say that family visits are defined differently for many people. Holding her to your standard is hard. She has the right to her own. But, then, she also has the right to pay for her own housing and transportation.
