Getting a tattoo with fibro

I have two tattoo's already. One of which isn't done yet and I want to get it finished! I got these before I was diagnosed with Fibro and since then I had a touch up on one and oh my god it hurt so bad that I couldn't even handle it. Is there anything anyone knows about doing or taking for the pain before getting a tattoo done? I can take the normal pain of a tattoo but my god with my fibro it hurt so much more!!!

I think you can handle it. How long will it take? Is it a large tattoo? I don't have any, but I paint so I do my art on canvas. I hope it goes well for you. It can be done, and if you like tattoos, it will be worth it. Just endure it... Easier said than done, right???

This is interesting. I'm about to get my first tattoo and was diagnosed with fibro this summer but have had it for years. And I've been really curious about how a tattoo would affect me (I'm gonna try it anyway!) I use this stuff called dibucaine ointment it's locally numbing for idk an hour ish that might do the trick if u can find it.

Also, what kind of pain is a tattoo? Does it ache or is it like a cut... Cause I notice sometimes if I stub my toe cut my finger etc it actually distracts me from the all over pain

Marie...the pain is all during the time you are getting the tattoo...And it hurts...big time while it's getting done! LOL...but it's obviously doable...It's like a burning feeling.

Afterwards though I wasn't in very much pain at all. I made sure I went to a reputable place that was very clean. Make sure they sterilize everything and that you can look around first.

I have one and only one. I got it when my brother and I found our dad after 31 years. So it's very special to me:) and I smile everytime I look at it.

It can certainly wake up those nerve endings..but I didn't notice it causing any type of flare for me with my Fibro.

I have 3 tats and 2 of them were after my fibro started. I didn't take anything special before or after. I just stuck to my meds schedule and it didn't bother me in the least. Of course I had one put on the back of my calf and the other on my left arm. The arm hurt worse than the leg but it also comes to the top of my arm to that sensitive part that has more skin and less fat under it.

I have four tattoos. Two medium size and two small. None of them hurt more than I expected and I don't think it affected the fibro at all. Of course, I got my last tattoo about 9 years ago so maybe it would be different if I got another one now. I know that you can't use anything that thins the blood right before getting a tattoo like advil because you will just bleed more while getting the tattoo and they do not like that. Also, you may want to think about the location of the tattoo because if it is in a place that is painful for someone without fibro like the ribs or underarms then it's possible that it could be even more painful if you have fibro. Getting a tattoo is going to hurt regardless so if it is something that you want I'd say go for it!

Yikes, never!! I'm way too sensitive for a tattoo. Or earrings. Or necklaces against my skin (cold!) Sigh....
