Leg pain/problems: anyone have anything similar?

My right side seems to be my weaker side.  In 2003 my fibro issues started to worsen, from only occasional very mild flares to difficulty walking at times.  It's been off/on ever since, but this Fall has been bad--the worse since '03.

My right leg seems to be inflamed near the top of the leg.  The pain even wakes me at night.  It's hard to walk, as my leg feels very stiff.  Both my feet are touchy; the right one being worse. Either infrequent jolts of nerve pain, or much pressure, despite having supportive arch sole shoes and using soft orthotics.  It's hard to even sit/stand in church because I find I have to maintain some type of balance between my two feet, not putting too much pressure on either. They can sometimes feel somewhat heavy, too, but maybe that's because I'm tired of caring for them!

Last year in October, I developed tendinitis in my right shoulder.  The pain is similar to what I have in my leg--any movement causes pain, and it's very tight.  Thankfully, the shoulder tendinitis went away by itself because I limited the use of that arm.  Not so lucky not using my right leg (that's impossible unless I sit all the time), but I do put ice on it and it helps somewhat.

Just had all kinds of blood tests done last week.  I called for results, but my doctor and his nurse were out for the day, so I talked to another nurse who said the tests turned out okay.  I did have a test for inflammation--not a sed rate, but something I'm told is more sensitive.  I'm not sure how that one came out, specifically, but again--am told they all came out okay. I'll find out more this week.

I'm going to phone in this week to see if I can get an MRI or CT scan.  I'm a little spooked because back in 2003, when nothing specific could be determined, the neurologist said he thought at first I had either MS or ALS, but decided it could also be something like cerebral palsy, and is basically more of a 'wait and see if it gets worse' diagnosis. He said I had fibro, but something else neurologically is going on, too.

Just wondering if anyone here has had anything similar?  Getting some fatigue, too, probably from meds, concern about this going on, and 'good ol' fibro itself.  Thanks for any input.

The neurologist also told me my leg reflexes are 'sloppy,' whatever that means! I also had an EMG, but that turned out okay. It was quite a while back, though.

Do you have much of a struggle walking? Even walking around in your house? I find it hard to get around in stores especially, and feel like I'm running a marathon! I've yet to use one of those carts, as I would feel very conspicuous, but I think I'm getting closer to using one.  I guess my question is:  How do you deal with walking, either at home, or when out in stores, etc.?

I have to do a lot of alternating sitting/standing even at home.

In response to your question, I dont have trouble walking. Sometimes I feel weak in my legs. I even had felt like my legs would buckle. It has got better now that I am healthier. It has taken time to work up to getting healthier. I have had numerious scans and test. No really answer. Dr''s look at you crazy when you try to explain things. They do the reflexe test and they do it over and over. It's off, but still no other diagnoses except fibro. So I just learned to put up with it and get on with life. LOL

In regards to your question, my right leg has also given me loads of trouble. Specifically my right hip as it's continually swelling. I was diagnosed with not only Fibro but Bursitis in the hips and knees. More so on my right side than my left. The swelling and pain you describe are exactly the same I have experienced and yes, ice will help. I would highly suggest you bring up Bursitis in your next doctor visit as it is likely you are experiencing swelling around your joints from the bursa (the fluid filled sac that is between your joints). You may also want to ask for some muscle relaxants to help you sleep at night.

barbara123: My feet are super sensitive as well. Have to change shoes all day long, and I can't go barefoot--too much pressure on the bottom of my feet, which can lead to cramping. Fussy feet!!

Hello everyone. Are any of you who have shared been diagnosed with Diabetes? Or Neuropathy? I have both. I was only diagnosed with diabetes a few months ago. Have had Neuropathy for many years. I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Neuropathy, that is neuropathy with unknown reason. I have had fibromyalgia for at least 20 years. Also, Osteoarthritis. Now something is wrong with hands and arms. My hands hurt so bad, especially my finger tips and down about an inch to my knuckle. They have big painful bumps. I have lost much strength. I have to use a wheelchair when I go anywhere because I can only walk short distance and no balance. I was falling many times a week so finely gave in to the W-chair. Mostly I just stay home and only leave my house for doctor appointments. I cant even button a blouse, it takes me forever with small buttons. I have been having a horrible week with so much worse pain. I think it has to do with big weather change. I have no cartaledge (sp)?in knees or hips or shoulders. Im bone on bone. I have spinal stenosis in my entire back and neck. I have gained weight this past year from be so inactive. We put in a pool so I could walk and exercise in it. I went out yesterday to test the water. Its not heated so I just cant make myself get in. We have a hot tub that feels wonderful, even in very cold winter.........I am going to empty my dishwasher, at least accomplish something...until later...Cathy

it happens when standing but seems worse when i sit and then stand.

My legs at times also feel like they are going to buckle as someone else mentioned in this thread.

i just spoke with my neuorologist last week.

he reassure me that i dont have MS based on tests done. He expained to me (again) that FMS has simialr symptoms to MS but explained what some differences are. so that was reassuring but if the symptoms persist for weeks with no variation then to go back and see him.

Also that blood test thats similar to a sed rate im guessing would have been a CRP(c-reactive protein). I work in health care and we usually order those

Good to know, too, that MS and fibro can look so identical. I'm not overly worried about my visit with the neurologist--likely followed by another MRI, now that you and others have said you've been told it's not MS--that's encouraging!
