For Women - Mammogram Question about MammoPad

Have any of you had a mammogram using the "MammoPad" ? It is a foam cushion placed on the machine that is supposed to make the experience more comfortable.

If you have used the MammoPad, did you find that it made a difference?

I had my mammogram a couple of months ago and was not offered that pad.  Like Snowbunny, I don't find it THAT uncomfortable that I would need that.  I would think they could get a better picture without a pad.

 

My doctor uses a new piece of equipment that gives you a 3-D picture and I was able to see the x-ray right away!  It was so neat.  They put a tiny band aid over any moles, etc. so the x-ray doesn't think it's a lump.  I do have one small mole so they did that before the x-ray and I could see after why they had to do that with this 3-D equipment.  It was a new experience for me.

 

But, Austen, I can't really help  you about the pad.  Just wanted to share this new experience.

One center here (a hospital) uses them on all of their patients, and the other one (which I have been to in the past) doesn't offer them. I'm just trying to decide which way to go. The only reason I would go with the center that doesn't use them is because I have been there before.

Actually, the pads are radiolucent and don't interfere with visual quality. Also, supposedly, because they have some "grip" they provide better positioning. But that study was done by the manufacturer, so who knows.

I'm just wondering if the benefits make it worth changing to a different center. I've never had a problem with mammograms until the last one I had. I was in pain for days afterward, so that is one of the reasons it appeals to me.

I had my yearly 2 weeks ago. I am 11 years post br cancer. In 2011 I. Had a mastectomy with reconstruction. Also a small imPlant on the other side for fullness. Since it's been 11 years and chemo put me into early meno, a horrible meno, my oncologist said HRT. Just need to see him more often. Ok too the subject, my ' boob' is always painful. Thank you HRT. Like before your period. I have only used one place all these years. So scared cuz of tenderness. Well, it was as good as ever. You expect discomfort but not pian. Bad tech. Find a new womens center. Or radiology.

Well, I went to the original center and just asked them to be more gentle with the pressure. It wasn't too bad this time. I did, however, receive a call back because of a suspicious spot. Geez Louise. It's been a rough year with medical procedures/tests for me.
