Anything for Savella Headache???

Hi there, I am new here, I joined to get information to help my wife who has Fibromyalgia.
She started taking Savella about four weeks ago and the drug is like a miracle for her, it works well on her pain, BUT she is suffering from horrible nausea and headaches as a result of the Savella. I know that those are side effects and she is going to start taking 500 mgs of Magnesium a day to try to alleviate the nausea. But I was hoping someone had a remedy for the bad headaches she is getting. Please these are debilitating headaches. She considered stopping the Savella, but it really works so well on her pain. We are desperate, any ideas???

Try some folic acid too. If you can get it do 1g, otherwise 800mg will do.

Folic Acid, are there any side effects with this?

none that I'm aware of. Sometimes these medicines we take will deplete it in our bodies. It will help some.
Also try ginger root in a tea or juice. I think you can get it in capsules but fresh is best.

I have used a migrastick for migraines,didn't try it for the Savella headaches, just stuck it out and it passed. This has been my miracle drug too. You can get it in any vitamin store. It smells like euclyptus (sp) and you rub it on your temples, behind your ears. I guess it works like aromatherapy. Worth a try and it can't hurt your wife.

Best of luck. The nausea and headaches do pass, it is just hard waiting it out, but tell her I found it well worth it if that helps.

I found if I ate 15-30 mins before taking the savella it helped with the headaches and nausea. But as Debbie said it will go away, each time my savella was upped I would have that for a few days. I have been on savella since March 2012 and I haven't had side effects for quite sometime ! Savella has been a miracle drug for me and my family also. There are still going to be some bad days with the savella, but they are not as bad or as frequent without meds. Tell your wife if she can hold on she will be so happy she stuck with it.

A hot wash towel over my eyes has helped with the headaches.

Thank you for all the advice, my wife is now taking 250 mgs of Magnesium, morning and evening and 800 mcgs of Folic Acid on a daily basis. The headache has eased a lot but the nausea still seems to be bothering her. Is there a need for a bit of time so that the Magnesium can take effect? Thank you again, this forum has been a HUGE help!

The ginger root will help with the nausea.

Hello, first I just want to say how great it is that you're doing this research to help your wife. Having someone in your corner is about the best medicine there is, in my opinion.  :-)  

 
Many years ago, I was suffering from terrible morning sickness. A neighbor recommended coke (coca-cola) syrup. It really helped! You can get it at the pharmacy without a prescription, and it's not expensive. You just pour a couple of tablespoons over ice and sip it. My family still uses it occasionally.

Thank you to everybody who has contributed to my thread, my wife (Maggie), is taking 850 mcgs of Folic Acid and 500mgs of Magnesium everyday and the nausea and headache are unabated. She tried eating crystallized ginger and that didn't help so I guess we will try the Coke syrup. She has been on the Savella for a month now but the side effects are the same. She is seriously depressed and is trying to decise which is worse the Fibro pain or the side effects. Does she need to increase the Mg and the Folic acid to higher doses? Thank you all in advance!!!
