Yrsilly, thanks for asking about my issues.
about fifteen months ago, I woke up with swollen lymph nodes and burning pain and tingling over a good portion of my body. Because the worst pain and burning was in my armpits and behind and in my breasts, my primary doc ordered a mammogram and an ultrasound of my left armpit area. This came back showing no breast cancer, but four "reactive" (as opposed to cancerous) lymph nodes.
My "case" eventually got to my rheumatologist (I have RA, so I was already established with a rheumy.) After many blood tests, she's been unable to find anythng amiss. My symptoms lessened after a few months, and over the summer were almost gone, but this Fall they returned, although not to their former intensity...I'm left with burning under my armpits, in my chest area, and below my butt-cheeks that varies in intensity with how much I do physically and how tired I am. Most of the areas of my body not affected by the burning sensations feel swollen and tingly/mild burning (but they don't appear swollen).
My rheumy says that since this doesn't appear to be progressive, and she can't (or won't...grrrrr!) order more tests, she said she's content to treat the symptoms, which consisted of prescribing gabapentin. (She compared me to another patient of hers who came in and had a small area of pain that was in a different location every day, and asked me "What was I supposed to do with that?) My pain varies in intensity, but it's in the same places every day...I didn't think that was a fair comparison.
I asked her if she believed in fibro, and she said yes, but continued with "If what you have is fibromyalgia, it's the weirdest case I've ever seen." I know most fibro sufferers don't start off with swollen lymph nodes, but I've corresponded with some who did.
She did order a follow-up ultrasound of my left armpit, which showed "only" one node swollen, but the burning and swollen sensations persist, and they are worse if I don't get enough rest or I over-exert myself. After months of online research, fibro is still the closest I can come to an answer.
Again, thanks for asking about my issues--I didn't mean to get so long-winded, but since this was something that changed over time, I wanted to give a bit of background.
