Hysterectomy with fibromyalgia?!?

So I am in line for a hysterectomy. The GYN said you'll probably read somewhere that it can make your fibromyalgia worse!?! Then I talked to the PA at my neurologists office and she said she wants to talk to " him" (my Neuro) to make sure he'd ok the procedure considering my fibro symptoms have been pretty bad. Can anyone relate? I've had so much pain in the lady area I can't help but think I'd feel better after a hysterectomy. My GYN wants to do a total laparoscopic which sounds like the least invasive. Thoughts please!

I had my surgery before my diagnosis, but know that I had it even back then. I would never not do the surgery. I was in so much agony back then that I told my dr. either he perform the surgery or get me a do it yourself book. ;/ I would just lay down curled in a ball crying in pain.

It was the best decision for me that I could have ever made. I also had another surgery after that 5 yrs ago and even though I was in pain, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I took things very slowly and did not lift more than a tea glass per my dr's orders even though it was 'button hole surgery'. I recovered nicely with the help of my family and meals made by them, pain meds helped, but since i hate taking them, I only took them when absolutely necessary. The after surgery pain was not even close to the pain I felt before surgery.

Anyone who has told me that they were getting a hysterectomy i have told them that was the best thing i ever had done. I was having pain and went to the gyno and said if you say hysterectomy, i would not be upset. He did one test, and said usually we do more tests before getting the insurance ok, but we are not putting you through that. I already had 1 kid, did not plan on having more (dh had had a vascectomy) so nothing else to consider. Good Luck

After two D&Cs, iron infusions, and being on hormones for Menorrhagia for 9 months, I was finally cleared by my gyn for a hysterectomy. I had been warned that I would feel horrible, blah, blah....and this was before my dx of Fibro, although I had all the issues then I do now.

Pushing and insisting on the hyster was the wisest choice I had made in a very long time. I have the hip to hip scar because of my obesity; the gyn felt that laparoscopic surgery would not work for me. I argued to keep my ovaries and cervix because if i couldn't tolerate the hormones now, how could I in the future?

I work up from surgery in pain, but no more so than I had prior to surgery. I was up and walking within 2 hours of being back in my room and by evening, I was doing laps around the floor. I was exhausted but I felt so much better, as odd as that sounds. For me sleep is the best medicine so I slept a lot the first week, but made sure that when awake, I was up and walking at least every hour. I believe that if you go into this thinking positive thoughts and that the hyster will help you, it will! Good luck sweetie!
