Costochondritis feels like you are having the symptoms of what they say a heart attack feels like. I have been getting it at times since I was pregnant with my dd more than 26 years ago and my mom first started having it when pregnant with me alot more than 26 years ago. ;) The drs also call it chest wall pain. From what they have told me (and i have went to the er with it a couple of times) that it is an inflammation in the chest wall. One nurse told me if i ever had the feeling that an elephant was sitting on my chest, it might be a heart attack. i told her about
having the chest wall pain, and she said never take a chance, go to er if i ever had the chest wall pain to make sure.
If i lift anything heavy with my left arm i usually wind up with the pain by the next day. Sometimes i ask dh what would cause the pain and he will ask me what i picked up that day. If i am having the pain, it is difficult for me to breathe deeply due to the pain, or to lay on that side.
