hobbies

I was wondering if any of you have hobbies. I have a creative soul but nothing turns out good enough for me. I love painting but what i see in my head is hard for me to bring out on canvas. My sketching is decent, but not what i am looking for. I can not knit, sew or crochet. I have a cricut but find it kind of frustrating. I have very little money (right now, down to a $15 gift certif for hobby lobby). I am trying to find something that will fill the boredom, that will look good when i am done, but at the same time not cause more pain in my hands, wrists or other places. BTW, i can not cook either (had a dog once that would go to the back door every time he saw me put a pot on the stove) and i think scrapbooking is dull. So depressed today. If i every get disability started, thinking of taking some money for classes at local craft store, but for now? Any suggestions? I do need to add that i get frustrated very quickly and not a very patient person. I do have made earrings in the past, but do not want to sell anything so they sit around

I do not have any pics right now. I did make all the earrings for my dd's wedding. She still has the earrings, just not the hubby LOL. I usually make ones with the french hooks. I made some i really liked with colored chains. pink and blue. Thought they were nice. It can add up moneywise though. If there is a special event or something coming up, i tend to make something.

Ladywithfibro- I really don't have hobbies either. My brain willn't let me count for knitting or etc. I do know if I keep a schedule for myself I get in the less poor me syndrom. I hurt less and I feel tired enough to get a good night sleep. I sometimes am amazed how busy I do get some days.

I use to get down because I wanted to do more in church. I knew my body wouldn't allow me to get to heavy involved like I use to. So I decided I could send cards to people that were sick in church or new visitor and etc. I got real good feedback from it. The cards were very inexpensive when bought in a pack. So it might really count as a true hobby, but it kind of replaces it. Lol

I think once you get your disability, you will be more at ease. The unknown can be tiring to your mind. I got a relief when I found out my disability.

Maybe go buy a craft magaine to get some ideas?

Check out Pinterest I am currently making a tshirt rug inspired by Pinterest basically I weave tshirt scraps onto another tshirt. Low impact hobby

I crochet and also do the knitting looms that Joy (the other Joy) was talking about. I've also made soap, you can usually get a kit to get some ideas and learn what you are doing for $10-$15. You might want to keep up the jewelry and if you don't want to go out and sell them try opening an Etsy shop. Might even make enough $$ to support your habit, LOL.

I love your poems, Robin. What a nice thing to do for your friends.....I used to write poetry in high school, but somehow lost the drive. But I remember that it was very satisfying.

AK Angel, I do the same thing at church...send cards. I'm good at remembering birthdays and illnesses and stuff like that, but somehow checking for new visitors' names and addresses is too much for my soggy little brain. Oh well....something to strive for. Guess we're all works in progress!

Scrapbooking is something I really want to do. I went through a phase, about 3 years ago, when I bought scrapbooks and all kinds of paper and little doo-hickeys to decorate pages. And there they sit. Someday -when I get my pictures organized. (groan!)

Those YouTube videos can be so helpful--thanks for the reminder. It does sound like a cozy, relaxing evening crocheting in front of the TV, too. Also appreciate knowing to begin with a larger hook--I have never heard that. Thanks again! :)

I love painting and working with pastels but haven't done them recently because I found my true love...genealogy! It's fascinating searching your roots and I've found some amazing things. Many I have found on the Internet. I do have a membership to Ancestry.com but it works out to under $13 a month for this. You get gobs of info there. I really enjoy this. I print out important things....census records, birth and death records plus I have built family trees. I am putting together books for my children. I even found a picture of my ggggg grandfathers home that he built himself back in the 1700's on the Internet. So this might be something that might interest you.

kwitbugin: I enjoy gardening, also, and a plus is that when I'm out in the warm sunshine, it really helps my pain. I'm hoping to have lots of varieties of foods this year to help with the grocery bill, which, as you likely know, keeps growing.

Yes, that is a very helpful side effect of gardening :)

You could try polymer clay. I use the premo brand because it's softer and doesn't hurt me. It is only about 3 dollars a color :) There are tons of tutorials online.

I cross-stitch, needlepoint some hardanger and have done knitting, might try that again, but I have many cross-stitch patterns to get done, just finished up a bellpull piece for my daughter graduation present, she'll graduate from college in December. I' m just waiting for the hardware for the bellpull and then to just wrap it up.
